big bore bachchan
by Niraj Prasad on Jun 26, 2007 10:59 AM  | Hide replies

amitabh has become a big bore ... everytime he comes on screen or newsprint he elicits a big yawn ... and his partiality towards his son is only too well known ... his comments are ugliest and the wedding itself was too in-your-face thurst down our throats when none of us wanted to know what the big bore and his baby bore along with the giggle-n-bore-in-law were doing in the wedding ... amitabh is a spent force ... i used to be his biggest fan ... now i just detest his mention ... feel like puking whenever i see his foto ... such a worthless oldie bore fellow ... i wonder why i was a fan of this piece of shit ...

Dude, AMITABH BACHHAN IS THE GOD OF HINDI FILM INDUSTRY. He is not at all partial towards his son. And even if he is, then which father isnt. As far as Abhishek's marriage was concerned he is the son of a MILLENIUM SUPERSTAR and was gettin married to the most beautiful woman in the country. It had to be extravagant. And if you did not like the publicity then you had the option of switching the channel or turning the page. You did not have to get too involved in it.

this side taking business.....
by Rahul on Jun 22, 2007 04:22 PM

these top filmi log are actually behaving in a very regressive way.
their grouping reminds me about the way prejudiced people of one caste or religion behaves against another.
they have become insecure. why do they think that amitabh bachchan should not support his son or himself...?
Amitabh is under attack from many quarter and mostly due to non filmy reasons, in that case it is very difficult to think why should amitabh not defend his family...? then who will do: hrithik? Shahrukh? or saif?
Amitabh has given more to the film industry than
all these stars combined would ever be able to do. so rather than taking sides against him, they should give respect to him....and should seek guidance from him....

JBJ takes the biggest opening of the year
by Renab singh on Jun 16, 2007 03:14 PM  | Hide replies

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom has opened with a bang and taken the biggest opening of the year at the box office. The reports on the film are indeed somewhat bipolar. Sections of masses are patronizing the entertainment quotient in droves, while others haven't followed suit. But as far as box office collections go, the weekend alone will ensure huge grosses for the week. Shaad Ali's previous supergrosser Bunty aur Babli followed a similar pattern (huge opening-divided response-cult audience-massive collections in the end). At this point, it is unclear if JBJ will follow suit but the film should emerge an earner at the least, with collections being ahead of the other 2007 hits right from the start. The film has had a somewhat mild release overseas but in India it has launched 240 prints in Bombay circuit alone and is booked out for the weekend even in theaters in Chennai where its facing a huge opposition in the form of Rajnikanth's Tamil Blockbuster Sivaji. Its collections in E. Punjab and even Bengal should be outstanding as well.

Had JBJ not released this week however, the movie that would most likely have continued to rule is the current sustaining hit of the season, Cheeni Kum. As reported earlier, CK overtook the multistarrer Shootout at Lokhandwala in India mid-way in the 2nd week and has been the top grosser since. While other films have been tumbling, Cheeni Kum's 3rd week collections are identical to week 2 and more prints have been added in a number of centers.

Even at 65 Bachchan can turn the crowd with a cheeni kum
by krishnendu mukherjee on Jun 14, 2007 06:53 PM  | Hide replies

Well the report is very much biased and if i am not wrong very much one sided. The report states Amitabhs downfall, where as, if box office reports are concerned he is reigning high with Cheeni kum and shootout of lokhandwala with so called new or flop directors. So like the SRK Amitabh dont really depends on the johars and chopras for a hit. Secondly Amitabh has praised his Abhishek for Guru. and whats wrong in that. Abhishek was excellent and all media praised him too. what if the same from his father. ANd if anybody is upset by that, then certainly they are not professional and freinds of the Bachchans. In Dhoom 2 the director of the movie wrote after its release that Abhishek is finished and this kind of comments are dengerous and irresponsible and so if Amitabh defends his son then whta is wrong in that. Rediff stated Hritikh as the highest tax payer which amitabh challenged claiming his contribution to be the most. He has guts to shout for the right no body contradicted that, so where is he wrong. I think This kind of baseless reports will not bother Amitabh or Bachchans. this is a kind of forcefully written baised display or wrong facts may be please certain section or handfull of Film industry people. The reporter should be given awards for his imagination. But the bottom line is that even at 65 years AMitabh can turn crowds and critcs with a cheeni kum or shoot out. anybody in hindi film industry can do it?

A Khan Commune?
by Diamond on Jun 13, 2007 11:52 PM  | Hide replies

One of the most absurd rumors to come out of bollywood is that all khans are planning to band together against the Bachchans as part of one big khan led lobby, refusing to work with them and so on, and that is supposed to be a big problem. That is being beyond delusional. Have these people forgotten that khans themselves are facing serious charges that can keep them from working period? Apart from that, they are all entering middle age soon and will have to face that music that every artist has to go into. They are in no position to isolate the Bachchans. Salman Khan for example himself needs Amitabh Bachchan to finish his film God Tussi Great Ho where Bachchan is playing his God.

Even otherwise, making a caravan out against the Bachchans is not a good idea for a number of deeper reasons which themselves would need whole articles. But suffice to say, this is the same India and Hindi film industry where Hamid Khan had to call himself Ajith in order to get work. They don't want to return back to those days do they?

More matter of factly, and practically in terms of need, a Guru could not be stopped from smashing the box office just because Saif Ali Khan did not do the 2nd lead to Abhishek Bachchan. Dhoom 1 and Dhoom 2 were both super successful despite one featuring John Abraham alongside Abhishek Bachchan and the other featuring Hrithik Roshan alongside Abhishek Bachchan and neither featuring a single Khan.

diomond this is true.
i smell ' Islamism' in these khan motives.. Since Amitabh only invite his friends, particularly Hindu friends & his close relation to BAlasahheb Thakare.. is irritating these khans..
i wish thr should be condition again that Shahrukh khan should convert his name make like any..kumar..like Rahul kumar..

And as we speak, Amitabh Bachchan's Cheeni Kum is going toe to toe with a big budget multistarrer also featuring him, with both emerging moneymakers.

Even if the rumors of all the khans conspiring against the Bachchans were true, India is not lacking in actors, aspiring directors; talented men and women who would love for a chance to break into bollywood and work with any member of Bollywood's first family. New actors from underrepresented sections of the country, new star directors will be developed out of that, and they would love to get that opportunity. New Madhavans, new Upen Patels, new Balkrishnans, new Sanjeev Kumars, new Dharmendras, new Shatrughan Sinhas, new Shashi Kapoors, new Mithun Chakrobartys will emerge.

Trying to isolate the Bachchans, therefore, will instead end up isolating out the isolaters themselves. For that and many other reasons, it is not a good idea.

Amitabh Bachchan :> Muqadar Ka Sikandar
by Renab singh on Jun 12, 2007 08:03 PM

Amitabh Bachchan is True MUQADAR KA SIKANDAR .
Last week's Cheeni Kum has fared very well despite opening against SOAL, in many places its faring better than the multistarrer action potboiler. It has fared specially well in Bengal and southern metros like Bangalore and Chennai, and even in some 2nd tier centers like Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Though in light of Nishabd, its distributor only released the film in a restricted number of prints (37 in Mumbai vs 77 for SOAL for example); the Amitabh Bachchan-Tabu starrer has proven to break out at the box office on its own. CK has already recovered its 10 crore budget and is poised to return 200% its cost going forward.

On the other hand, despite it too highlighting Amitabh Bachchan along with a more numerous multi-starcast, large number of prints and extraordinary publicity blitz, Shootout at Lokhandwala failed to rake in extra-ordinary collections per say. The collections are good but well short of the top openings recorded this year (Guru, TRPP). In balance however, the film hasn't crashed out either. It is drawing reasonably well in Mumbai and Delhi in its 2nd weekend. It shall do about 25-27 crores net in India making it a recovery film if not a big hit.
Cheeni Kum 2 Rs. 5,10,50,833 Rs. 13,21,29,788 Rs. 7,15,51,461 Rs. 18,42,93,555 $592,703 £308,861 Hit
This Year Amitabh Bachchan Three hit in a row
