After watching week 2 eliminations, I have strong suspicions that there is an underground effort worldwide among the Indian population to over-vote to get this mediocre kid to win. HE was even surprised that he won this second round. While the kid is good, he is NOT Idol material. Fortunately, Fox has built-in protection, should this become about 50million indian people voting 100 times each worldwide to make their point, not based on talent, but based on nationality. This kid will NEVER make the top....and it would send a bad message to the American population as a whole, who are already tired of corporate downsizing and outsourcing to India, taking our jobs. Let the kid win.....or loose....on his own merit, not that of his people trying to make a statement for ALL Indian people. He's just not that good.
Wow! We indians have so much to be proud of. Now we have produced twins aged 17 and 19! So what if these kids were born and raised in America. In our books they continue to be American. When one of them goes to win an Olympic medal - I am sure Indian media will count that in the Indian Medal Tally! How sweet. Keep it up, Rediff!
Several US websites have made it a point to mention that Sanjaya Malakar is the first contestant of Indian origin to make it to the final 24 in American Idol history. And since this is the most popular show in US television history -- last year, more votes were cast for the AI finals than for the US PRESIDENCY -- I think it's newsworthy for us Indians. Quit getting your panties in a bunch.
Rediff really needs to prep up its act. Such an absurd headline clearly shows the desperation of the indian media (read rediff guys) to blow the \"India is great\" horn when things are still at such a primordial stage. If either of the malakar wins it would be great but untill that time media needs to wait and watch and not get excited over the fact that these kids just got through the audition, and put stories with headings like the above. Grow up!!
American Idol?...humiliation show on FOX with drunk Paula and crazy UK based Simon. Fox aired only the contestents have mental problems or handicaps. The show is sick. Anyway, Malakar duo need to work out their personality and outfit. go Malakars. Wish you next Carrie Underwood.
I totally agree with Sambit Sahoo (Re: shut-up!). These are not Indians. I have lived abroad for 4 years now and know lot of Indian-origins. They certiainly donot bother about India or the India people. So it would be good if media stop such hype and rather focus on Indian talents.
