Balaji B
Scorcese?
by Balaji B on Feb 26, 2007 08:47 PM

Scorcese gets a pity award in the end. Am not sure if he will even be able to digest this himself, knowing it was just a pity awad. My pick for best original screenplay would have been Borat, but I could've lived with anything else. But please, not The Departed. That particular scene that was picked made a complete mockery of a wonderful film in Infernal Affairs. The Departed was good, but good enough to be the best film? No way. Babel and Dreamgirls missed out there and were beaten by a far less worthy film.

bollywood stars are so cheap. People who make movie hit are people who save money to watch indian movies and not many understand english and when they get awards they flaunt in a silly english ascent and poor fans who just understand hindi dont know what they talking..oscar was so stylish and elegant and movies nominated were world class movies . No one cared to look at or mention about our water crew who went to take oscar..shame

I am an Indian who left India some time back coz i felt this country is not for me. To be honest i was sick of interacting with mindless people who know nothing about world and always boast of having best culture and bla bla bal. I know most of indians have no brains to understand movies like departed, babel, letts from iwo jima and documentry like inconvenient truth and witouth watching all this you comment hritik is better and srk is better than tom hanks or tom cruise. I hate the hypocrisy in our country and some day i will surely make a movie on India and its lies and hypocrisy..Its not lame to speak negative if u have a valid point. every person has some views and i learned from Hollywood how to express ur views.eg movies like Platoon and born on 4th of july openly critisised usa decession to fight in vietnam and yet released and successful and water was banned.Am not sayin water was good movie ,ive not even seen it and never gona see it as its gona be same old saga of exposing of indian hypocrisy..Mr departed am sure u r those indians who just seen leonardos titanic lol but u not seen his previous movie and recent movies i.e avaitor, catch me if u can, blood diamond and departed sorry to say u didnt understand..so indian just watch film fare and srk and big b and be happy dont get into hollywood, its for intelligent people

If you ever make a movie about the hypocracy of the Indians, make sure the plot revolves around your life, coz you are full of hypocracy

Hi, You are right in the wrong sense. Do you know what is intelligence ? Do you think that reading few books and seeing few movies and boasting a lot about oneself is intelligence ? Are you ashamed to express your cheapest thought in media? It is not ethic to blabber something irrelevant since you have the freedom to do so. I dont wont to hurt you anymore and I dont like to use this opportunity to remove your Mask. Take care Ex-Indian (Ex-human)

hey,
Departed is a good movie with good plot, but planting a "rat" into the gangs is an old formula movie. Fast and Furious, and one other movie of keano reevs, i think its Terminal Velocity, they all have similar plots.

Oscar vs flimfare- Difference visible
by Vandna Kacker on Feb 26, 2007 04:25 PM  | Hide replies

We saw both award functions on tv and though it is not necessary, the comparision raised in mind. In Oscar, The quality of presentation, sets lights were simply batter than flimfare. Second, In oscar, all the celibraties were present feeling it as their homage to the profession. But here, many stars were not attending the event, even if their work were nominated for awards. And third but most important, people at oscar were speaking their language but here at flimfare, which supposed to be organised for Hindi cinema, not a single person spoke a single word in hindi - except for Shri Javed Akhtar and an unknown person who won a prize for Omkara. Do our stars realy feel so ashamed to talk in Hindi in public?

Nobody feels shy to speak in Hindi.
You ,yourself who is writing the comments have answered it in english ? Why we all want to know.
I know you have given your answer in English so that others here get the clear message and understand what you say.
In a big and vast country like India, there are so many states where people refuse to speak in Hindi but only recognize their Mother Tongues and English.
The problem lies within the public.Filmfare only wanted to reach to everyone and so they spoke in English just like you did here.

THE OSCARS : MY PREFERENCES
by Mehernosh Bharucha on Feb 26, 2007 04:23 PM  | Hide replies

I am really happy THE DEPARTED scored over the somewhat over-rated BABEL in the Best Pic category at the Oscars. Awesomely mounted and spec-ta-cu-lar-ly acted in by Leo diCap, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg and Martin heen (I'll leave out Jack Nic whose was an overrated performance). I wud reeeeaaally like to know if angst-ridden physically challenged Japanese teens behave as Cheiko did in BABEL - hence I am glad it scored not either for Best Pic nor Director - tho it shud have won the Editing Oscar.

While it is now understood that the winners in acting categories at the Screen Actors Guild Awards snag the Oscar acting honors, I was rooting 4 Leo DiCap as Best Lead Actor for Blood Diamond - his mercenary S African charater Denny Archer was a lesson in acting. And over Helen Mirren in the Lead Actress category I prefer the awesome Meryl Streep or the consistently amazing Kate Winslet.

I believe last yr's best Actor win for P S Hoffman and this yr's to F Whitaker will be one-time wins only 4 these actors - I mean, what remarkable stuff has Hoffman done beyond TRUMAN ? Sometimes, consistency in performances shud outweigh individual "slam dunks".

I was also rooting for Mark Wahlberg in the Supp Actor category for his super-slick turn as the tough-n-sharp-and-shit-talking Det Dignam in THE DEPARTED. His turn was vastly superior to Denzel W's bad cop act in TRAINING DAY.

Am soooooooooooooo happy that Mumble, the tappity-tapping penguin saw his film win in the Animation feature category.

RE:THE OSCARS : MY PREFERENCES

I certainly don't agree on departed being the best picture of Hollywood. For me, it will be Letters of Iwo Jima. A fantastic movie both in terms of scale and performance (Watch ken Watanabe) this was the movie of year. Even United 93 was much better than departed. I have seen IA and feel that departed does not come any closer to it. There was no emotional content, no character development (yeah..i know, you are gonna scream at me..but that's the way it is!!). All in all, though Marty deserved an Oscar...it was not for this movie.

Another thing was in the best actor category. I was also rooting for Dicaprio. Too bad he is not given his due.

But the biggest disappointment was the snub for Kate Winslet. Come on, how many young actresses can come up with consecutive Oscar nominations and get snubbed again and again. This is her FIFTH nomination and she is not even 32 yet!!. I think the academy goes gaga over those who portray biographical roles...And consistent performers like Ms Winslet are "consistently" ignored :)

I also think oscar to Jennifer Hudson was a bit over reaction. Looked like the academy wanted to be politically correct (you know what i mean!!).

by brinda sen on Feb 26, 2007 03:51 PM  | Hide replies

i think these days awards are just for name sake. good movies are even not nominated. woh lamhe was not mentioned even though the movies was so good with good songs. and also gangstar was not mentioned. for best singer, i think zubeen should have got!! his voice is so nice. shaan got for the movie Fanna. and i think that song was not that good. it was okay type.
its just wastage of time.
and karan johar is just like our "bobby darling"!! 50...50.. so boring!!!
but i liked shakrukh khan in the programme.

Tell me honestly was hrithik better than Aaamir in RDB and Sanjay in Lage raho... I think even sharukh was better in the pathetic KANK

but, do you say that the awards given in accredition of performance of lathamageshkar, rd burman, SPB, kamalhasan, rishikapoor, nana patekar, sivaji ganesan, & etc. etc. etc.... are merely a waste
