Headache Rider
by Arun Bhardwaj on Mar 04, 2007 05:41 PM

The title sums it all. The film will remain of ghastly reminder of a wonderful actor gone berserk.
It was not at all required for Cage to pickup a comic book movie just to satisfy the decision he made years ago when he changed his last name from Coppola to Cage on a comic book char. It seems this could be the only reason which made him put fire to his skull and headache to ours.

This film will be a ghostly memory

I can%u2019t understand your logic. By this definition I have no right to dislike, say, The Mummy because it is a %u201Cgrave-ripping, worm-ridden, sandstorm blasting, ghost arousing story about some dangerously crazy explorers%u201D. In fact, it is hardly anyone%u2019s kind of thing, but people liked it.

Similarly, a story where %u201Ccrazy computers are fighting unreal humans in a computer-simulated, gravity-defying, telephone-dependent world%u201D, or an %u201Caeroplane stopping, krypton-fearing, solar-powered, space-flying, other-world-resident%u201D, may not be everyone%u2019s cup of tea, but we liked them because they were projects well done.

In contrast, this weak movie is an insult to the intelligence of even children. Flaming skulls, bike, burning road, helicopter- jumping, forced tributes to the hero\'s courage from a fawning sidekick- they all seem so desperately done to arouse audience passion. Unfortunately, we are used to special effects and screen %u2018heroism%u2019 of such high quality now that we can only smile and pat the filmmaker%u2019s back with understanding.

And all this wholesale use of the devil says blah blah and the testament says blah blah to justify the filmy weirdness must stop forthwith.

The whole movie feels like a failed consummation. Things weakly build up and never climax, only the boredom increases till the movie thankfully ends.

This movie has been severely panned in America for its inanity, which is a relief. Hey, just because the underlying story is as hollow as the movie, does not make this movie somehow better.

And of course, since for probably 99.99% of us %u201CHellcycle riding, skull-faced cowboy in a Hell\'s Angel jacket, with flaming chains and a lethal shotgun,%u201D isn%u2019t our kind of thing, I would let this movie be watched only by its ardent admirers.

We all like some comics or the other in our childhood. Nostalgia is no sustiture for art.

Superstar! Chill out. There's no need to go over the top on this one. Mozhi and Paruthiveran might be good movies but the fact that they weren't discussed openly is quite reasonable. A tamil movie at the end of the day is watched by a limited number of people who ultimately belong solely to a single state whereas bollywood or hollywood movies are watched by people all over the country. The number of people who'd read the reviews for these movies would be far greater than even those who'd click on the link pointing to a tamil movie. At the end of the day, somebody as interested as you obviously found the link to the movie anyway, didn't you? Anybody else from tamil nadu would've done the same. As far as a bias is concerned, have you ever seen rediff showing the reviews of marathi, punjabi, gujarati or bengali films? Would you still call them biased? I think rediff makes its decision based on what the general public wants, not what they or only a limited group of people want.

Ghost rider, grrrr..
by arul george on Feb 25, 2007 06:55 PM

Well here comes another one, ghost rider..guess what, don't they just keep coming.
Plot: Mr Blaze Jr gave up his soul (he even signed a contract apparently) to Mephistophles ( who is he?), to cure Mr Blaze Sr's cancer, as a consequence of which he got appointed as devils errand runner. For the job he is given a damn stupid bike( when will these directors understand that silly old world war 2, harley davidson lookalike bikes have done their job in terminator2, and that they are no longer hot) and a cool ( this I must confess, though a bit too on the flashy side) leather outfit. The rest is all what any hard working sincere superhero has been tought to do.
What's good: devilishly delightful, but meant mostly for kids or adults pretending to be kids, and for the Marvel comics GR fans. Since I don't meet any of the above requirments, it wasn't an over the top experiance for me, but still it was lovely- jovely.Nic Cage was good, contrary to my expectations.
What's bad: everything that's good is also bad, if you are not a GR geek. Movie concentrates more on graphics and effects, and has a threadbare storyline. The entire plot is rather silly, if you manage to find it that is, but then what do you expect from a movie with a guy riding a bike with smoke comming out of his skull.
PS: You might be wondering why I even bothered writing this. I guess you do a lot of silly things over a boring weekend other than watching movies of heroes with skulls and stilettos.

Rider runs away
by Kumar Rahul on Feb 25, 2007 11:25 AM  | Hide replies

I watched Ghost Rider, and though it was entertaining, it was a no brainer, and childish. It was a seer waste of talent of an actor like Nocolas Cage to light up his skull and ride a bike.

No scene were horrifying, and I hope children must have enjoyed it. For others, forget it and let us ride back.

I dont know Kumar...what did you have in mind when you planned to see GR????

The movie met all the expectations. It was supposed to be like this. Guess you should choose movies properly before you go and watch em.

This was supposed to be a comic book adaptation and not a horror film as u thought! and it was indeed for cult audience.
