Indians lack class...
by Bharat Kumar on Feb 12, 2007 03:48 PM  | Hide replies

Good films are seldom made, and in a place like India, cine-media is more about profitability than service to the nation. This explicitly boils down to the bitter fact that any film, if made for a mass audience(a commercial blockbuster, for instance) will hardly survive competition from the sedate. RDB should have the central theme constantly harping as in the movie Kurdhipoonal, by Kamal Hassan. I liked his Mahanadi film too. With songs and other hilarious sequences often breaking the flow of RDB , the outcome was no BIG surprise.

Shocked to read your views that indians lack class. Today Indians are acquiring various companies in the world and you say Indians lack class. Now to RDB, it never lacked any class, it is a pathbreaking movie and lots of protests in real life have been inspired by this movie.

Indian Cinema lacks class. not Indians..
Indian film industry is funded by the underworld and so reflects that violent culture. Indians deserve better.

aamir is not a hypocrite
by Faridoon Shahryar on Feb 12, 2007 03:36 PM  | Hide replies

Aamir is not a hypocrite and anyone saying that should be out of his mind. An actor who can do hundreds of stage shows, do any number of adds and do any number of big movies prefers to value quality over quantity. He is human, he does go wrong at times...but yes he is the most sensible star we have today for he doesn't indulge in unnecessary one upmanship (something that SRK and Big B are doing). His work speaks for itself and the whole world waits for his movies as is evident from two hits he gave last year and many hits over fifteen years in spite of doing vrey less work.

Cheers
Farid

You are absolutely right Faridoon.Aamir is one of the few stars who concentrates on his films and does not appear in the media in every ad and interview. To call him a hypocrite simply because he has attended an internationally recognized award show,it is not fair.RDB was a good film that touched a chord for Indians world wide.It got nominated, that too is an achievement.

Mohd.Abdul Sami Sir, lemme help you with this. A hypocrite and Hippocrates are two different terms. YOu may use dictionary to observe how the two are defined in opposite fashion

rdb's theme is not universally applicable.
Only for a country which has just begun to move towards developed status from 3rd world status after 60 years of independence and the struggles and contradiction in society this brings can understand it

not a big deal

I believe rdb is one of the finest films that came out of india in a very long time, both technically and screenplay wise....about bafta, all i believe is that "rdb" needs a predominantly indian mind to understand the parallels drawn about our pre independence and today...it might not get taht well understood by a predominantly european jury....if you take an example and assume that "schindler's list" gets nominated for screen awards for best foreign film, and indians votes for it....i think its more about emotional and informational connect....still iam very proud that "rdb" was shortlisted in that category....way to go...cheers

I hope you have seen 'Labyrinth,' dude. Then you would know the difference between excellent films and those of the ilk of the Rang De Basantis. The awards are given away to the best in a competing category. Not to 'the finest films' coming out of India or elsewhere.

i completly agree with you sultan, i havent saw "labyrinth" i surely believe that it is a great film....the point i was trying to make is that every film works on a emotional connect, which are based upon the information we gather as individuals...and "labyrinth" might works wonder in that....but the same is a handicap for "rdb"....there was no intention to say that the film which has recieved the award has any less merit...

You have to make films like PL to get awards. RDB , cut the songs, melodrama, and some silly scenes. it would have got an award. One eye for boxoffice ( Indian audience and Overseas Indian audience will not do) and the other eye on award at international level awards will not do.

Quite a few people have been talking about Aamir looking funny in the photograph..actually he is looking a bit but the remaining two definitely beat him in this regard..
The old man looks like a drunkard lost in his own world! And the old lady looks like one of the sixth sense ghosts and on top of that has a funny expression on her face :D :D :D

Some one also mentioned that Indian movies do not have any art in it...Dont wanna sound rude, but whoever it was..do you understand art? Have you seen black, Dil Chahta Hai, Lagaan, Swades and lots more for tht matter???
