If AK wears it then its fashion.

Amir and awards
by Human Mind on Feb 12, 2007 11:15 PM  | Hide replies

Why does AK attend award ceremonies in US and UK and not in India?
He says he is not bothered about awards, but when it came to Oscars he and Ashutosh were all overy trying to woo the judges ..
Why we we Indians even care about Oscars? Who gives a damn .
Give me filmfare, Zee Cine or Screen .. they are our awards!

The truth is Indian Cinema sucks. Its simply nautanki filmed on a movie. It can hardly be called an art form. You should not expect any international awards for that.

RDB movement
by GAURAV BHOJANE on Feb 12, 2007 08:21 PM  | Hide replies

Lets not forget that RDB inspired a whole lot of ppl in India and also helped deliver justice in the cases like Jessica lall and Matto. So I think RDB is important to me for all these reasons. lets not criticize as it failed to get a foreign award.

Who said to consider me! RDB is nonsense made with Directors own view points, fictious tales than research/truth. They never bothered nor showed the basis of their reasoning. To send it to Oscars is an insult on Indian cinema (how did they expect it to be selected) Do you expect people to get inspired by such lies, sentiment and emotional drama and win an award for such stuff. Its a Dharmendra, Jitendra kind of film with beautiful technique. I think It was Munnabhai that changed our mindset or atleast made us think in better way. Its 1000 times better film.

Usman, You are write. Dor is much much better movie. The topic itself is new and creative. Omkara is even better. The treatment of the film is better. But one thing is sure, for getting oskar, atleast movie's name should be ENGLISH.
But still I hope, one day we will win Oskar for sure.

Usman,

Well said...though i havent seen Dor. Omkara was easily a better choice than RDB. I am from Delhi (and a huuuge fan of Aamir) and aamir simply failed at copying that delhi punjabi accent. Saif and others did a much better job of copying a very strong western UP jaat accent.

The picturization of some of the scenes in Omkaara was just immaculate.....the desk meeting between Omakara and Surinder Captain on a truck. The administrator naming function on a small hill top by the river...the list is endless. No wonder this guy did production work for copolla...Vishal bhardwaj is one of the best that we have to offer at the moment.

thanx
Rahul

RDB rocks dude... and hard luck for its makers that it was up against really terrific movies (xcept "Water")..otherwise RDB is definetly better than even Lagaan..Also one thing I noticed is pbly the westerners just like to see the poor, hungry, god forsaken india rather than a revolutionary India like the one depicted in RDB. Why such a big deal is made out of water i dont know. John Abraham and Lisa Ray are worse than a peice of wood as far as acting is concerned. Deepa Mehta just only shows misery in the movie which makes these westerners go crazy with artificial emotions. Omkara is not better than RDB in any sense as it doesn't even have a original story line.

usman,
The Othello theme has been played to death in Hollywood so that worked against Omakara. But i have confidence in Vishal Bhardwaj....he has really grown as a director and will keep producing masterpieces.
To my view, "Foreign Movie Oscar" and "Best Film Cannes" are the hardest category. Infact i look forward to foreign movies more than American movies. I am positive a "real" director will win it for India very soon.

rahul salam bombay came very close to winning both at cannes and an oscar , if india had not banned bandit queen it could have won too , what of shakespeare in love an average movie marketed well suceeded in winning 5 oscars just as it was shakespearean , fishburnes othello pales in comparison to omkara and anyway omkara is a very indigenous piece its not the venetian othello , so im afraid i dont agree with you as to the argument that a well made shakespearean movie will be ignored by the academy , yet why didnt india send hazaron khawahishen aisi or iqbal to oscars is a mystery again ,sincerely yours

1. The argument that Indians make movies for Indians and that it is both unnecessary and almost impossible for foreign audiences to 'connect' with is horseshit.

2. In the same way, that a commercial movie cannot be critically appreciated is a fallacious premise.

3. Let us all accept that RDB just won to a better movie.

4. Foreign audiences are not against songs. Infact they like it (not the Karan Johar kind... that one they just love to laugh at). And appreciate the poetic quality of the visuals when it is done well. The problem is that of lack of innovation in either narrative style or in content.

Still we have slave mentality
by nikhil mishra on Feb 12, 2007 05:50 PM

I am surprised to read some of the comments... why do we need to get appreciated by foreigners... RDB is an Indian film made for Indian people and like an Indian film it has ingrediants which are liked by Indians. why some people are commenting that forget box office and all and make the films which can win awards. if they can't understand our scenario then its their problem not ours.
