He was a notorious producer and always had promoted new talents. He had given break to Salman khan - Raveena Tandon in Patthar ke Phool', Shahrukh and Aziz Mirza (Director) in 'Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman' ( food for arguements that who gave break to Shahrukh). All I can say, he played key role giving break to directors like Vivek vaswani, Aziz Mirza. In his early days he was the only well established producer.
The movies under his banner.. Seeta Aur geeta (Ramesh Sippy) Sholay (Ramesh Sippy) Shaan (Ramesh Sippy) Patthar ke Phool (Vivek Waswani) Atish (Sanjay Gupta) Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (Aziz Mirza) cannot be mistaken Shakti (Mushir Riaz were the producers) - Ups
Any good creation is always a teamwork. Sholay was a masterpiece. Ramesh's direction, Sanjeekumar's Thakur, Hema's Basanti, Amjad's Gabbar, AB's and Dharam's Jai and Viru, Jaya Bhaduri, and above all, R.D, Burmans' yet untouched music viz. the tabla pieces while teh horse's run, the typical sound when Gabbar is on screen, Jalal Agha and Helen's cabaret for the superb Mehbooba rendered by RD himself (though it was inspired by Deni Suison it had a RD Burman and Helen touch to it). Also remember the ultimate tracks of Seeta Aur Geeta and Saagar. Tribute to GP Sippy saab!!!
Ramesh Sippy made a mistake of dropping RD Burman after the debacle of Saagar. None of the songs after Saagar are remembered by film fans today.

True after dropping R.D.Burman, Ramesh Sippy directed movies like 'Akayla' starring Amitabh, 'Bhrashtachaar' had music by Laxmi-Pyare and after that I think Ramesh Sippy didn't directed any movies (correct me if wrong). Whoever dropped RD were flopped coinsidently. Rahul Rawail 'Mast Kalandar', 'Jeevan ek Sangharsh' Shakti Samanta 'Gitanjalee' too had music by Laxmi-Pyare who were dominated those so called era.
The magnum opus of the Sippys, however, was to be Sholay (1975), with a star cast of Dharmendera, Hema Malini, Amitabh Bachchan, JAYA BACHCHAN,Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan.
Mr. G.P Sippy was indeed a legend as a film maker and he has left his footprints in the sand of time by giving us a cult movie called sholay. May god give peace to his soul.
The techniques he used and the vision he had in 1975 is still missing..remember the train robbery, the sounds of bulltes, horse chases, the flying pieces of rope when bacchan breaks free dharmendra in the end...the hight of imagination when gabbar shoots the child and the thakur steps out of the train simultaneouely...superb
