RGV KI SH#@!

Aweful! Some of the worst movies that I've seen over the years: Uff Ye Mohabbat; Bombay to Goa (New); Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. However, this movie tops the list. It was such a traumatic experience to watch it. I feel really bad that a good filmmaker RGV has fallen to such poor standards. The film, supposed to be inspired from Sholay, is too far off from the mark to be considered a remake. The direction is very bad and the pace of the movie makes one feel as if RGV was in a hurry to finish up with his idiot work. Its also hard to believe how seasoned actors like AB, Mohanlal, and Sushmita Sen agreed to do such a film. All the characters in the film didn't seem to fit in their roles. Overall, if one has to see the movie, carrying a small video game or an ipod will be necessary, else it would become very difficult to stay in the theater.

See it with no Sholay at the back of your mind & you will like it. Amjad Khan would not have stood a chance today. In the 70's there was a lot of scope for theatricals but today peopole are used to watching quality movies. Take 70mm & dolby out of Sholay & you have a drab movie. Remember Sholay was the first widescreen experience to the Indian audience with a lifted story out of Magnificient 7 & the majic of R.D. Burman. Aag scores above Sholay in film making. Only if Ramu did not publicise so much about making it a remake the response would have been better.

You said it.

Amjad was a new face, had the best of dialogues to spit and his role was almost tailor-made by the brilliant Salim-Javed. Then there was Sanjeev towering over everyone in a spectacular avenging role. The other factor that helped the old film was the poignancy of Jaya-Amitabh angle, who had just got married, and Amitabh was at his peak post-Zanjeer and Deewar. The Dharam-Hema angle, of which much is now written about, was not an important factor at all in 1976 although they were the hottest pair then. Their angle paled into insignificance against the tragedy of Jaya-Amitabh relationship. In fact, the audience didn't like Sippy's attempt to generate laughter through the last Dharam-Hema scene in the train. Amitabh was weighing down in their minds. For at least fifty percent of them, the movie was over with his death.

There is therefore no wonder that RGV shifted his emphasis to Mohanlal-Amitabh in his new version because he knew he couldn't capitalize effectively on the tragic-romantic angle. He has succeeded in his effort with the duo coming out in flying colours.

Why we are after his blood then as though he has pirated the Mona Liza!? He has just adapted an old movie and admitted to it. The old itself was unadmitted piracy. No one asks questions about that theft but calls the film a classic! Hypocrisy!

I read your above mail, and i am sorryto say this, bec you didnt understand sholay. the main thing why its working is not bec it was a film of any genre but it was a complete film.If not for dharamji's fabulous performance sholay would have been only a tragic film. But he carried the entire comedy track in the film. amjad, sanjeev kumar, amitabh & jaya all had serious roles in the film so understand the significance of Dharam in the film and dont put down his performance. and try to understand the basis of sholay why it is such a great film. you been completely biased in you view bec of mohanlal and complete failure of devgan in the film.

I know that certain things in the old movie like the laughter of the gabbar was adapted from western classic probably "not a penny more ,not a penny less" but that was simply an impression on the mind of writer which happened subconsciously. That happens everywhere, when we talk we copy someone may be our parents ,that's the nature of a human being. That is actually inspiration. Inspiration becomes a copy when you try to repeat the act with hardly any changes or if changes are there it's horrible.

buddha hone ke bad srk bhi nahi lift karega.
rajni is star only in tamil(state). In hindi films he is flop only 2-3 films are hit with amitabh.
amitabh is only suprstar in bollywood. srk nor even close to navin nischal(last ranking star of bollywood in 70's)even jetendra, dhermendra, rajesh kahnna are superstars.srks name not in top 50 of all time bollywood stars.

Hi All,

Please watch the movie with ur patience, it is a good movie. It is not the remake of sholay.

Tell me who is a better director than me in Bollywood, I have tried with all my best effort, and the movie is a sure shot bockbuster.

I ditched SRK and became firend of Bachan family, now we can make more films, I can use Abhishek, ASH as well.

Wish me all the best!

RAM GOPAL VERMA

No problem.. It happens...Even Steven Spielberg gives flop. Ditching SRK is the best thing you have done. He needs to first grow his beard properly and stand straight. His movie is lost between Partner and Hevy Baby. He is nowhere. People say JBJ is flop and Chak DE is hit. Both made around 30 crores. So what the....

Anwar,
What the...??? You must be crazy to compare JBJ with Chak De... Its simple economics... JBJ was higher buget, sold at higher price... Whereas Chak De was lower budget movie despite SRK's fees... 20 crores - 24 crores (2 figures doing rounds)So it is a HIT...

I am simply considering the cinegoers here. 2 films making 30 crores means that same number of people went to see the movies. I am not judging flop or hit because the actual money spent is never known to the common audience. Its all estimate. You will agree that same number of people went to see JBJ. When i got to watch a movie i do not see how much was spent to make the movie...That's not my business.

yes it depends on the budget... since the big budget movies are made for the masses like JBJ... whereas the Chak De was made for only certain audiences... Like overseas market, Chak De India doesn't work for Pakistanis & Bangladeshis... whereas JBJ had elements supporting it for a wider audience... so Chak De and JBJ cannot be judged on the same scales... Like tomorrow Om Shanti Om needs to make much more than Chak De to be declared a hit
