Definitely Amjad could not have done this role at 65.
by Anwar Ali on Sep 02, 2007 09:15 PM  | Hide replies

They said the same thing in AKS but they filled the theatres in Ankhen.
They said the same thing in Boom but they filled the theatres in Baghban.
They said the same thing in Aetbaar but they filled the theatres in Kaante and Khakee.
They said the same thing in Lakshya or Deewar(new) but they filled the theatres with Black and Waqt. They said the same thing in Kyon Ho gaya Na and they filled the theatres in Bunty and Babli and Sarkar.
They said the same thing in Nishabd but the same audience filled the theatres in Cheeni Kum.
Now they are saying the same thing in Aag and these same audience will change in Sarkar Raj.
So who cares.......
Its BIG B. verrrrry BIG.
He is the only actor to do it all. Everytime tries something diffrent....
At this age he does not have to see if it is a hit or flop.
And when a flop movie like "Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo" makes more money than so called hit (according to SRK fans) Paheli or Swades....
so we can still say.
BIG B's flop = other peoples Hit..
Think....................
Yes. At 65 years of age.

the problem is we loved Jai at that time and we loved Babban this time. The film does not work because we take the villains side.

RGV yeh toone kya kiya?
by avinassh kamath on Sep 02, 2007 06:18 PM  | Hide replies

Let there be no doubt about it. Ram Gopal Verma is one of the most creative and thinking directors of our time, who tries to venture into all sorts of genre. Be it Rangeela or Satya. Raat or Shiva. Company or Sarkar. There is no doubt that he likes to experiment. He likes taking risks. Thats why he makes classics like Shiva and Rangeela and stutters with duds like Daud and Shiva (Recent one). And He is not like Karan Johar, who plays it safe and makes the same kind of tear jerkers and laughs his way to the bank. Smart man.
But the best thing about RGV is he is always in search of a new subject and New kind of cinema.
And those who take risks, are bound to fall sometimes. Lets admit a fact that he has made a bad movie...A bad movie which is still better than some of recent Yashraj flicks. If we carefully see RGV's career graph, we will notice that he has given a classic after 2-3 duds. Not a bad track record.
And those, who bore the readers with AB-SRK comparisons...Pls lay off. Both are good. Both are Superstars in their own right. Both have done quality cinema. Both have given super films. Both have given ultimate duds. Both are Great entertainers. Lets be proud of the fact that India has produced actors like AB, SRK, Rajni, Mohanlal, Hrithik, Aamir.... Lets be proud as Indians about these REAL Achievers.

Its so pleasing to see another right thinking cinegoer here. You said it Avinaash.RGV has guts. And he doesn't play to the gallery. He is the only director in India who makes films primarily for himself and does not care what the critics or the audience says. He is truly an artist in a business. I think Naach was saying his own story. All those critics blaming him for remaking Sholay should think twice. These are the same people who copy B class movies from Hollywood and make them unwatchable C grade movies. Same to the critics who give these crap movies OK reviews. Bollywood is fooling only itself. RGV atleast has the honesty to say that he is making a copy. Infact he has confessed that every movie of his a copy or inspired. I salute his guts. Even when his movies fail, they are interesting. When other studios and directors think that having an item number with guest appearences by their star friends or the same love story shot in a different set with songs in a different country is the meaning of making a different film, here is RGV who is truly an original making interesting films. In fact I was so happy when I saw RGV saying to a TV reporter who asked-- what his expectation about AAG was-- he replied-- 'I think a lot of people are going to hate it.' So that proves it, that he is no fool. He knew what he was doing. He is simply too good for Bollywood.

thanks for new reviewer
by junkey czar on Sep 02, 2007 04:38 PM

Thanks rediff for introducing a new reviewer. We now have an option and hopefully a better review... will this arrangement continue? Film reviews are very integral part for deciding a movie.. and I would mostly like to decide it from the portal reviews such as yours... becauze they are early to land

Mukesh
Mohanlal did his best
by Mukesh on Sep 02, 2007 03:42 PM

Only saving grace was Mohanlal and his expressions. However as he does n't have commanding power over hindi language the impact was less. Anyway his poetric way of expressions a real worth to watch. The confrontation scene between him and Amithabhji was good. Amithabhji was good in some scenes but felt overacting in many scenes. His uttering and appearance no way justify the character. A real talent should able to impart the villaineous character through his expression, not by uttering or by look.
Nisha kothari and ajay scenes were a big let down. For such a kind of serious movie, ramu should not have given much space for massala. Being his first attempt Prashant raj can be excused.

No Sholey But AAG
by on Sep 02, 2007 12:30 PM  | Hide replies

I am sure the RGV's AAG is a thrilling experience. Why should we think about 1975 version? This is a reality of 2007.

Amitab's perfect presentation, Mohanlal's stunning moments, Hero & Raj combination, Nisha kothari (100/100) capacity, Susmita Sen's naturality, Urmila did a fantastic appearance, and lot lot each and everybody made their best input in this movie.

Camerawork is good than what we imagine the style of previous films...While at places like when Amitabh throws apple, the camera work was superb.

Wish to work with Ram Gopal Varma Unit before end my life. Rajan Perintalmann...rajanps1@yahoo.com

Abey Perintalmann/woman whatever, this isn't the place for you to put your CV for the Factory and go pitching for work in public. Going by the comments here, neither the Factory's maalik nor the watchmen are going to be anywhere here on Rediff. And going by your description, you seem have be spawned on C-grade movies before you landed on Rediff. Good luck to you.

Thriller Babban..
by prashant nikure on Sep 02, 2007 11:57 AM

sure its not a good movie but the main reason for such strong reaction from audience is that at every shot we compares it with sholay. better watch it with fresh mind and then you would definetely like babbans role, if nothing else..
