Chak De india overseas performance
by arun choj on Aug 22, 2007 12:44 AM

While a lot of theories have been postulated about CHAKDE! INDIA having started on a slow note in the Overseas, there are already indications of a turnaround.

In the US, CHAKDE! INDIA, which grossed $351,887, during the first weekend, is rock steady with $246,984 in the second, for a total of $732,426 so far.

Coming to UK, the movie which had grossed $259,871, last weekend, has obtained $161,388 this weekend, and the total gross now stands at $593,805.

The Shah Rukh Khan-Vidya Malavde starrer had a good first weekend in the Australia with Aus $94,870 and has followed it up with an impressive Aus $75,988, for a total gross of Aus $210,133.

It will be interesting to monitor CHAKDE! INDIA's progress, as the overseas audience seems to have warmed up to the movie now.

that is srk

Mr.Negi all praise for SRK
Whenever a crowd gathered to have his glimpse during shooting, Shahrukh told them that 'Negi Sahab' was real hero while he was merely a filmi hero.

Former Indian hockey coach Mir Ranjan Negi was all praise for Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan saying he was overwhelmed by his dedication towards work and respect for elders.

Recounting his experience while working with Shahrukh in Aditya Chopra's 'Chak de India' -- a film that draws inspiration from Negi's life --, he told UNI here today that he found that the actor was full of dynamism.

''Shahrukh is very humble and has regard for elders despite being one of the best actors in film industry,'' Negi said, adding that the actor used to touch his feet as soon as he arrived on sets although he asked him not to do so.

Whenever a crowd gathered to have his glimpse during shooting, Shahrukh told them that 'Negi Sahab' was real hero while he was merely a filmi hero.

Negi had trained Shahrukh and the girls who acted in the movie.

The film had received accolades for the manner in which Shahrukh and the girls appeared on the field.

On own merits
by BR on Aug 19, 2007 12:50 AM

The movie worked on its own merits - casting, dialogues, entertainment, acting, screenplay, direction, etc. etc. Shahrukh must feel proud to have been a part of this movie, and not the other way around.

Arthur, re-review the movie please
by BR on Aug 19, 2007 12:49 AM

Arthur was too quick to put in his review last week, He should re-review this week. He may find more moolah jingling in the cash boxes, and perhaps by this week, his report will contain more 'taarif' for the movie.

Hit in India too
by BR on Aug 19, 2007 12:48 AM  | Hide replies

Someone earlier on the board mentioned that the movie is also a hit in India. This is great. So, Indians in India can learn something from this movie and get out of the 'cricket' mindset. Hopefully next time there is a hockey tournament in India, in Chandigarh, there will be more people in the stadiums or even on the TV watching the game.

India became cricket crazy when the team won the world cup against all odds, they didn't even have a coach. i think it'll require something like that from the hockey girls to pull the crowds. Indian people are not genuine sports lovers. they'll support something when they get their money's worth.

Movie is going strong
by BR on Aug 19, 2007 12:42 AM

This is the second week, and the theatres were still full on a Friday night. There were much less kids watching. And unlike response to any other movie, the audience for this one stayed 'chup' without "passing" any smart comment. This is proff enough that the movie was gripping. The ending of the movie was especially good, considering that 15 minutes or so went into just showing stick play interspersed brilliantly the mind-play of the several players and SRK's role as a coach, a coach who is tempered and is using another approach to inspire his ragtag team. I would say 'GREAT JOB' to the movie.

I already feel like I should have to see the movie again, although next week, I need to juggle between Aag, Naya Daur and Chakde.
