This film should arouseassion for the game in our country
by Raju Saraswat on Aug 07, 2007 01:40 PM  | Hide replies

Field Hockey is a beautiful game. My earliest memories are the radio commentaries from Montreal Olympics, the TV footages from Moscow Olympics and The Champions Trophy at Lahore in Pakistan when we played several great matches, with Shahid, Zaffer Iqbal and Merwin Fernandes in tremendous form. I think this film should be shown in every nook and corner of our country, in every school, so that it can revive the passion for this game in common people. There is a need for some kind of people's movement, deep in their minds and acts, for the revival of the game. The people should also act to rid the game free from politicians, bureaucrats and corrupt, incapable administrators and ensure we have the right infrastructure and system in place. We should not compromise with any vested interests for this game. We need administratively able, marketing savvy people with passion and love for the game, to be in charge of the game in our country. We have done many things against all odds in our country. Examples abound in varied spheres like space research, economic revival etc. Similar things should happen to Field Hockey now. It can be done. Let's do it.

not to forget M. P. Singh, Paragat Singh, Dhanraj Pillai. They were class palyers of their time. they have done exceedingly well in many international tournaments. I remember a match against germany in Champions trophy when we were lagging 2-5 & pulled off a draw in last 5 minutes or so by scoring 3 in a row!! that was fabulous!! I can't remember any indian lady though who became so famous.

All the 3 goals scored in the last 5 minutes against the germans it was all because of Pargat singh effort. Still I remember that the great goal he scored against the germans. He single handedly dribbled every germans before beating the goal keeper. That was an excellent goal of the tournment.

It is nice to see something besides cricket. This could be a morale booster to reinvent hockey in India & come back as our national game.

No doubt Hockey is more beautiful game to watch and unlike cricket it's less time consuming and we should strive to bring back the old glorious days of indian hockey

Chak De- Movie Distribution Strategy
by Aditya Kulkarni on Aug 07, 2007 01:32 PM  | Hide replies

Primarily since the movie revolves around Hockey , a sports played in North India and tht too womens hockey which for many is unheard.
Taking into consideration wht will be the distribution strategy? Wht would be ratio of prints in Metros to non metros territory? Wth the 'Sports Women Team' factor playng a important role as a usp of the movie, whw will if effect the film terms of territory.
Overall the movie is worth watchng
ALL THE BEST

Hockey is played in East-India as well . of late our captain ,in both forms of game, also hails from east India . So it's untrue that it palys in N-India only.

Karnataka has contributed a couple of captains of Indian men hocky team such as Ganesh and Govinda. Ashish Ballal a great goal keeper and many others have contributed a lot to Indian Hocky. Kodagu in Karnataka which gave several brave soldiers to indian Army such as Gen. Kariyappa and Gen. Thimmaiah is the district where hocky is very popular and it has contributed several players including the two captains mentioned above. It is not correct to say that Hocky is played only in northern part of India.

So what if its a remake what matters is if this movie win some fan for our national game or not. No indian director says his movie is a remake of xyz foriegn movie.
Koi milgaya was a copy of ET frame to frame....
Sarkar was a clear remake of Godfather....
Krrish was a copy of so many english movie plus character was created by some 18 year old american-indian guy..
so does RDB, Black, Murder, Partner, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Dhoom, Josh, Aitraz etc etc.....

Crowd Problem
by Deven Tanna on Aug 07, 2007 01:09 PM  | Hide replies

It was surprising to see that during the 2nd half of last year when I got out of a tram on Bourke Street in Melbourne - Shah Rukh Khan was distributing free T-Shirts amongst the crowd.

Can you guess why? They were falling short of an audience to shoot a hockey match at a stadium in Melbourne!!

Bole to, do it is desi style - the same way politicians distribute free liquor and biryani packets for votes!!

THE STORY REMINS ME OF MY SIR IN SCHOOL WHO WAS VERY MUCH INTO ALL TYPES OF SPORTS, ESPECIALLY "HOCKEY" AND I WAS TAUGHT THE WHOLE GAME BY HIM.
HE REALLY PUT ALL HIS HEART AND SOUL INTO THE GAME WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT ANY PERSONAL BENEFITS BUT GIVING HIS ALL TO THE GAME AND ESPECIALLY TO ALL TYPES OF SPORTS.
THRU HIS HANDS PASSED OUT MANY STALWART HOCKEY PLAYERS FROM BANDRA WHO REPRESENTED INDIA IN THE OLYMPICS.
THE "JOGGERS PARK" IN BANDRA(WEST) ON CARTER ROAD HAS BEEN HIS BRAINCHILD AND HAS BEEN DULY ADAPTED WITH THE INSCRIPTION"TO SIR WITH LOVE".
THIS GREAT PERSON'S NAME WAS "MR.OLIVER ANDRADE" WHO VERY FEW PEOPLE NEITHER KNOW NOR ANY PERSON WHO KNOWS CARES TO REMEMBER.
IT WILL REALLY BE A GREAT HONOUR TO HIM IF THE FILM "CHAK DE" IS INSCRIBED IN HIS MEMORY.
THIS CAN BE CONFIRMED FROM MOST PEOPLE LIVING IN THE SUBURB OF BANDRA, KHAR, SANTACRUZ.
WITH BEST REGARDS

I do remember Sir Andrade's contribution to sports, especially Hockey, but unfortunetly I never had the opportunety to meet him. Besides Sir Andrade, I would like to mention another fantastic coach, Mr Jaswant Singh Grewal who coached at Khalsa College, Matunga. His name is familiar to all those who played any level of Hockey during the 70s, 80s and 90s.

I think this story is true with any schools in India and Abroad.
We as well had some teachers who brought up many pupils as good sportsmen.
And it really feels good to remember such teachers.
