The star rating here is only for the music. Why should it win the Oscars for this? Also, why are people always raving about the Oscars as the highest standard for movies? Oscar is awarded by Americans. It is equivalent to our National award. Don't be slaves to foreign culture.

for me, this isnt right. i always look upto oscars and to be very honest, i have always enjoyed movies that have won oscars...and yes, Oscar also has foreign film category which promotes other industries as well.. anyways, it is rated as the highest award and i always look upto that event....

Guys Oscar is not the standard of greatness. I am sure all of you here would agree Alfred Hitchcock is one of the greatest directors of all time. But he never won an Oscar for his movies. What do you think of that?

hmmm...Vignesh...yeha...Hitchcock hasnt got Oscors.. there are many like that... issue it, in a year, there can be one or two movies that can take oscars...it is fine...but whichever movie that has own, truely deserved it.....even this times top 100 list i was talking about... just watch them- they are simply great. i guess, i will back here in the evening... This immense response to this news itself is a proof of Rajini's popularity. A superstar in any part of the world is always referred to the crowd pullers be it Arnold, Stallone, Jackie Chan, AB, Rajini, Chiranjeevi, etc.,. All these are not great actors. Movie is an industry, they can survive only with these stars. There cannot be comparison. why Rajini should act like Kamal and AB like Nasrudeen shah. Stories are written keeping these stars in mind. Certainly Al Pacino & Arnold would not fit in each other's role. Telugu movies are taken for Andhraites and Tamil for Tamils. But Hindi goes to national audience. Hence south indian are better judges of movies as they watch both regional and Hindi movies (few) but not the case with North Indians who do not have an idea of Southern classics, and technical superiority. Speak truth.

truth is both are totally different...every region has their own super stars,, that is fact....but there are few like me he he - i dont tag much to these actors... as i believe actros tend to give both hits and flops... you name any star ...i can tell you some of their stupidest movies...so it is not rite to generalise who is best... same with directors...simple - enjoy movie if it is goood... if bad - be careful nexttime hehe...and yes, in world top100, we have 5 movies - which is simply great.

Sorry dude but most of Tamilians dont watch Hindi movies maybe a few NRI Tamils may watch Hollywood/Bollywood they are few and far between also Rajini is a superstar but only for Tamilians

Similary AB is a superstar where there is no good cine industry, like maharashtra, east and north but not south. All 4 states have a very vibrant movie industry and have their own great actors, superstars and technicians. If you see the size of these states the collection for regional superstars is many times higher than AB. Otherwise how Rajini is paid a whopping 20 crores. One thing always remember, it is just your choice. Not all tamils like rajini and also not all hindi movie buffs like AB. It is individual's taste. And everyone knows hindi industry plagiarize story,music, comedy, stunts, etc. every possible thing and call it as inspiration.

you are slightly wrong AB is a superstar everywhere except Tamil Nadu and maybe Kerala. I am pretty sure he is very well known in Hyderabad for instance, hyderabad has a lot of theatre which screen hindi movies

Few NRI's watch and you call your bollywood actors as INTERNATIONAL HEROs? You can call yourself anything, and try to portray as Rajini is local to TN, but your hindi films don't even run as long and successful as Rajini's movies in INDIA itself. and surly hindi films cant beat Rajini film collections in Andhra and Kerala.
Plus, HINDI is not a national language. Its one of 24 official languages and pushed as link language by hindi politicians. check the constitution, dont speak like a politician.
Every language and culture in INDIA is a treasure. now that the hindi belt politicians dont have majority on their own (those with so called NATIONAL parties), lets see how they can continue their agena of pushing hindi on all people). sorry for the deviation from main topic.

I know that few Japanese watched Muthu but that doesnt prove anything does it ? Is he a superstar in Japan?. Japanese model themselves on US not on Tamil Nadu surely US actors will be more popular there than Rajini. Dont tell me Rajini is as big as Chiranjeevi in AP. In AP I would say Rajni is equal to AB at best. Regarding the languages I have no comments but hindi is known by more non-hindi speakers than tamil is known by non-tamilians. Hindi belt politicians may not have majority but they are close to it, Hindi is spoken by 45% of the nation. Tamilians themselves didnt watch baba much so does it make him less of a superstar in TN

The countries that AB movies were released have very reasonable indian population. And many settled down in those countries or have culturally close to india. But JAPAN, although buddhist we don't have too many indian settlers there like EU or US or ME. And certainly not many tamilians in Tamil. But see how Rajini got a tremendous response. The theaters are full of Japanese and they even came to India to have a glimpse. Does this kind of craze is there for AB by any foreign country men. Just accept the truth and surrender.

Rajinikant is an good actor too. You must see his movies from 70's. Brilliant acting. To name a few for people who don't know what iam talking about..just watch Arumuthal Aruvathu Varai ( 6 to 60). After watching this movie u will realize u don't know anything about rajini's acting skills.

i wouldnt agree with you...rajini/ab/srk/kamal/mohanlal/rajkumar... list is endless... all are fine actors....if you take top 250, you might get some of our movies.. anyways.. that is not the point here...point is - there are some really good movies which might not be big hit commercially...vice versa...
All the songs of shivaji were too nice to hear, AR. Rahman has did a spendid work for shivaji,.....Shivaji will be a the movie to break the recors of Chandramuki,Wait for Rajini to break all the records.
