LRMB to Oscar
by Dilip Chopra on Sep 30, 2006 09:12 PM

I loved the film LRMB, I was in splits when I wached it in theater here in uk, loved the acting of all stars. This film should get a best film of Filmfare Award but for OSCAR a big NO.I think Mr Chopra made a big mistake by sending this film to Oscar Nomination WHY?

1. No white skin charecter in the film.
2. Type of comedy, only for indean public not for goras.
3.Songs, jury will get bored.
4.Gandhi Giri, they do not know what does it mean.
5.Typical indian standard film if you haven't lived in India then the jury wouldn't know what is this film about, only GANDHI name is not enough to get the nomination.

So Mr Chopra don't send your desi film for Oskars to be just disappoint. It will bring nothing.

Dilip Chopra

Hi,

This is very nice decision to send Lage raho Munna Bhai for the Oscar award bcz It is very different film and give us the Ghandi's message during the film.

Krish should also go for Oscar Award bcz that is also different film..This is my suggestion..

Realy very nice decision.

Thanks & Regards
Vineet Dhiman

You definitely do not understand the cinema then... RDB is good but I guess it has many flaws... which democracy in the world will give shoot at site orders to students? while i think LRMB has no flaws....

Are you Crazy?

No way! The movie is surely entertaining to Indian audience but it has nothing else to offer. Rang De Basanti must make it to Oscars that movie has some substance and class.

Amazing movie!
by Sid on Sep 30, 2006 02:50 AM

In my personal opinion, I think LRMB deserves a presence at the Oscars. I am sure it will make people (Indians and international audience) realise the value of truth, love and peace, in todays world. Most of us know BAPU only as a wall hanging or a street name. This movie has give him LIFE and made us feel his presence, one amongst us. I hope this movie will influence many minds, directing them towards righteousness. I loved the movie and the message! Let not people come to this conclusion that Bollywood is all glamour and garbage.
Excellent job, and my best wishes to the entire LRMB team.

Wise decision by Vidhu Vinod Chopra
by sumee on Sep 30, 2006 02:21 AM

When I heard about RDB being sent to the Oscars, I was neither surprised nor satisfied. RDB and LRMB are each genres and trendsetters in their own way, but I was not sure why/how one should/can be picked over the other for the Oscars.

RDB has a global appeal (lack of local slang etc.) but then LRMB has Gandhi, period. What can be a more globally appealing - and thus more effective in communicating - trademark than Gandhi?

But then I guess whoever had to choose an entry for the oscars, could only choose one, and they went with RDB, leaving souls like me to wonder..."what if LRMB and RDB were released in two different years, would both have gone to the Oscars (provided there ain't a third competitor in the making)?"

Now that LRMB is being sent as an independent entry, I am sure there are more souls like me that are happy for RDB as well as LRMB with no more what-ifs and if-onlys left to ponder on.

Laga Raho Munna Bhai for Oscar
by Mukti on Sep 29, 2006 11:13 PM

Laga Raho Munna bhai should have been selected & sent to Oscar for the foreign film category. India is country who has led the world in peace. A movie with complete violence dominance can never represent India. Can politics about such selection so obvious that we don't care our representation in the world!!!

Munnabahi at Oscars
by Mili on Sep 29, 2006 10:52 PM

That's a bold step on Mr.Vidhu Vinod Chopra's part. Not that I misjudge the strengths of 'Munnabhai'but with the minimum knowledge I have about the Oscars I think that despite having a strong appeal due to the Gandhian angle, the film would be labeled too entertaining (which was the reason stated for Paheli's and Lagaan's loss)by a drab audience with a totally different sensibility altogether and an equally drab judging panel of the Oscars.Anyways, whether it wins or not is not the issue. It's great that our film industry has really come of age and that we've been getting exceptionally good films like Lage Raho Munnabhai and Rang De Basanti.Kudos to Mr.Vidhu Vinod Chopra for making such a wonderfully entertaining movie and All thE Very Best.
