Fanaa movie review
by Anurag Agarwal on Jun 22, 2006 02:02 PM

Fanaa is a incredible movie with Kajol looking more ravishing than before and Aamir again with his new looks especially in the first half is amazing. Saying that the songs were good would be an understatement. Music and backgound score steals your heart along with the little cute and charming Jr. Rehaan who is fantastic in the latter part of the movie. Dont miss it.

Fanaa is definitely worth watching!
by Jebu.D on Jun 19, 2006 08:06 PM

Fanaa is definitely a very good movie and worth a watch. Yes it has a few flaws but not as serious as exaggerated by Raja Sen, who unmistakably criticizes each & every movie by picking on useless details. Anyone who has read his reviews would agree. No movie is perfect...but the key thing is that does it make you feel that your time was well spent. Fanaa was successful in doing that. The powerful performance by Aamir Khan & Kajol alone is worth the money. My suggestion... stop reading the whining baby's reviews and go watch the movie.

Fanaan Review

Very very well put. I thoroughly agree with your review. Kajol, Aamir and the seed of a great plot idea salvage this film from total hackneyed mediocrity.

I always thought Kunal Kohli was an over-rated director and this film is proof of his inherent lack of talent. It was all very well to lift a dozen ideas from an English film while making "Hum Tum", but "Fanaa" gave him a chance to direct an original work and put a stamp of his own vision on it. And man, how he failed.

His inability to handle actors is obvious from the way he directs the kid and the smaller characters. That is where the true ability of a director is revealed. Established performers don't need that much direction. In fact, they often carry a director's shortcomings on their capable shoulders. And that is what has happened here in "Fanaa".

The sub-plot was laughable, the pacing choppy, the sense of geography and place completely absent. Surely a few patchwork shots of the real Kashmir would have lent some authenticity and feel. God knows they had the budget to do a week of shooting in Kashmir. They could have taken a few key location shots even after the edit was completed, and patched them in smoothly. Edits are done on non-linear computer systems nowadays after all.

By the time Fanaa's edit was done there were no weather problems in Kashmir anymore. It's shows nothing but a crappy production attitude. Lots of money, no dedication. Result - all unreal sets and inauthentic Alpine lodges. In contrast, "Yahaan" captured Kashmir so beautifully.

All in all, the execution of "Fanaa" was execrable. Nuff said.

Now on I started reading Rediff reviews, since I want to see if movie really worth watching it. We do not want to spend my time (money, life) on junk, aimless, divide & rule movies like Fa-naa...

REDIFF is Great. It gives so much option to give reviews/opinions.

Fanaa!
"I" think its not a great movie as many people have posted... but its a vgood attempt to make a great movie... I think we should appreciate the attempt.

The first half contained very good dailouges and excellent background music. I wrote down all the shayeri's and plan to say most of them (except one involving her blindness) to my future girl friend.

The second half was very disappointing because its seemed to go haywire but makes you wanna watch you the whole movie. I dont know how they do it.

I am more of a war movie and murder mystery guy so i tend to watch the details of any movie... and this movie, well, has lot of flaws. Starting with nuclear missile... forget it pal... CIA or MI6 or any other counter terrorist organisation would have been involved... After london incident (which ofcourse did not involve any nuclear bomb) terrorism is handled co-operatively by all the anti or counter terrorism organisations. There are many more related to this... but so much to say so less chars...

To conclude, i say you can watch it for two times (i did)... One for fun and the other to write down the shayeri's and to laugh at the flaws you found while watching the first time.

Kajol's always been one of my faves and she doesn't fail to fascinate me again. The movie's cinematography is brilliant and the storyline is as realistic as silverscreen glitz can muster while capturing its wide-eyed audience. There's a difference between writing a book and making a movie-you can't just convert a book to a movie verbatim and expect the audience to revel in it. The "players of the movie" are an integral part and in this case, both Aamir and Kajol, play that part exceedingly well - Kajol's once-blind-eyes never fail to captivate, imbued with her expressions of love and passion. There are obvious clichés in the movie, but who's to argue that clichés are clichéd because they often deserve to be so; also pointing out clichés gives smug reviewers a feeling they are better than trite moviemakers. The movie is believable in its first part with a huge chemistry between Aamir and Kajol. In the second part too, it is not mindless violence but a well portrayed struggle between love and patriotism, whether misplaced or not. We have recently seen such a struggle portrayed not so successfully in "Munich". Here it works and I give it two thumbs up with both my hands. (Indiana, US)

Fire Raja Sen!!!!
by Preety on Jun 10, 2006 10:48 PM

Its a great movie! Not to miss. I guess this guy Raja Sen wanted to act in movies himself and his dreams were shattered. No wonder he writes all this crap about great movies like Fanna. I think its the best movie of the year and should win an award. Very good acting by both Kajol and Amir. Its one of my fav movies.
Please don't base your ideas of not watching the movie based on crappy reviews like Raja Sen and others.
Its a very good movie(can't say enough). Go watch it and make your own judgement.
