Keep the good work AMIR
by RL on May 30, 2006 06:10 AM

Amir you are doing right. Go head....you will get the support from all Indian citizens, who realize that basic needs like Water, Food & Shelter are the rights of every human. This corrupt BJP is making all these drama just to brainwash all Hindus for it's political purpose, which it has been making all these years. But I am sue, all humans, let it be any religion will agree with Amir.

Rang De -- Doing Well, Aamir
by Harish Dunakhe on May 29, 2006 11:34 PM

Dear Aamir,

Being a fan of yours I was surprised to see you besides the Narmada Bachao Aandolan (NBA) workers. However, today it seems that it was right.

Well, any construction project of national interest will definitely hurt some people. You can't really 'rehabilitate' them. You can just 'compensate' them for their sacrifices - in terms of land etc.

Secondly, there are people encroaching lands all over the country. One needs to look in to identity of the people you are talking about. Their poverty is not their passport to readymade life. Everybody has to earn his bread and butter.

Rehabilitation, reservation, schemes etc. are beggars' words. We need to think big now. I am not advocating Gujarat Govt's stand here. But what am I telling you is, talk about alternative and a formula of rehabilitation for those people instead of sitting in opposition.

You just can't leave the battle in between. If you have come in this mess, then, clear it!

Regards,
Harish

U go Aamir!!!!(regarding the narmada dam)
by kamal on May 29, 2006 06:31 PM

Initially I thought Aamir was raising his opinion, just to get some attention from the public('cos most celebrities have the tendency to do that)But,after reading his interview with the press,my props to him.He is extremely right.India is a democratic country, and he is an Indian who has all the right to speak his mind out,and besides the man's only speaking the truth. All he is saying is,provide water for the people, and also provide them shelter.what's wrong with that?Aren't our basic needs in life-food,water and shelter.no human can survive without one or the other.the political parties as usual are just trying to make this into a political/religious issue, and they never want to be wrong.I think aamir will get good support from the Citizens in the long run, though the political parties are trying to brainwash the people..
I admire Aamir for standing strong with his right to his opinion, and not apologising.U GO AAMIR,,U sure have my support

...And what about Srilankan Tamils...and Tibetians...??
by Bragaadeesh Srinivasan on May 27, 2006 05:51 PM

I am not sure why Aamir Khan should speak out for Kashmiri pandits to earn credibility???

It would be great if he defends pandits and purohits and makes headlines; but seriously, why is it necessarily his job?

Aamir Khan is a muslim and there is nothing wrong in him raising his voice against an issue where muslim interests were affected (such as the Godhra riots). Why does he have to prove his secular credentials by supporting Hindus, Buddhists and Zorastrians to gain credibility for this issue?

Let some Kashmiri Pandit actor mobilize the film industry to fight for the displaced in Kashmir. Actually, do we require an actor to do it? Then, who entertains us? Politicians?!

The worst thing, however, is that this article was not even about Pandits or Mullahs, it was pretty areligious - that of the height of a dam! And as over-simplistic as it might sound, why doesn't a citizen (albeit a celebrity) have a right to say, he doesn't like the height of a dam!!! Isn't this 'dam democracy'?!

Aamir's Press Conference
by Hareram on May 27, 2006 02:59 PM

Aamir's statement on BJP is his own. And, it is difficult to unedsrtand why he is leaving Congress outside his statement, althogh they are doing same thing in Gujrat regarding his role on this issue.

By the way, as far sa democracy is concerned, it was undemocratic ways of holding elections in J&K under Congress rule, which has aggrevated the issue (in addition to the fact that Nehru is single-handedly responsible for the problem itself.) And, it was democratically held elections during BJP's rule, which brought credibility to the political process in J&K.
Instead of talking about BJP in general, he will sound more sensible if he talks specific.

Aamir's Stand : Wrong to certain Extent
by American Indian on May 26, 2006 11:01 PM  | Hide replies

Aamir should understand that big celebrities like him should not interfere in sensitive issues. It makes matter worse rather than solving it. Let the supreme court and other law enforcement agencies decide what to do with it. Also Mr. Khan you talk aboout Gujarat riots, where is your humanitarian concerns when Hindus are killed in UP. What about militants killing Kashmiri pandits. You said you would voice against it also. Lets see when.. What are you doing when the future of india-young students are being beaten by indian cops. They are on hunger-strike and none in your supported -Congress is giving it a damn. Why did not we hear a single word from you on this issue. Just because the same congress has made reservations for muslims too..You say poor farmer's land was taken away without proper compensation. So farmer's are suffering and the students on hunger strike aren't. BJP has not done enough for MP farmers, what has your congress done for students. Affected MP farmers are very less. But quota issue is of the whole country. I don't say BJP is good and Congress is bad. You should not be biased against any party or religion. There is difference between reel & real life.
