Bollywood best music director : ARR
by pravin on Jun 20, 2006 12:04 PM

There is no doubt AR Rahman is the best as far as quality of music is concerned. Himesh Reshamiya is the best in terms of quantity of Hits but if Himesh continues to be as monotonous as he is then he will also slide of the top like Anu Malik.

it is undoubtedly A.R.R.he is way above th epeople in the list and people know only abt his bollywood numbers what abt the other language compositions which are equally beautiful and breaks all barriers .His music broke all barriers between norht and south and continues to do so.The other music directors placed on the list all salute a.r.rahman.
Shankar first sang for arr,HR,ISMAIL,Jatin-lalit ,everybody salute arr and if u have watches sa re ga ma or any other singing competiton ,the final rounds always has ARR songs to sing to test their singing skill. His sounds are so new and his blending of carnatic/classical and western sounds is amazing and above all he is very modest and humble and has his feet firmly to the ground. He has done our nation proud

Rediff shouldn't even put Mr. Rahman with these people, who are no match to him. AR Rahman is the best and you giys have to realize that he has really brought hip hop in Indian cinrmas. So AR Rahman is the best who can give any type of music.

Manoj
Best music director - ARR
by Manoj on Jun 15, 2006 04:06 PM

Continuing with my previous post....
One thing I forgot was that the list included Ismail Durbar. Well, his music isn't good for dancefloors either. Yes, it's good...but his songs lack what it takes to 'connect' to our souls....
The title of the story says a lot - 'music director'. Everyone except ARR mentioned in the list are, I agree, mujic directors. But, only ARR is a true composer.
ARR's everywhere...film music (any langg), concerts, remixes (HR depends on Akbar Sami for this), BGMs (guys like Pritam, Malik and Durbar have to depend on Salim-Sulaiman/Ranjit Barot for this), albums, ads (yes, we've Vishal-Shekhar and SEL too here), music 4 social work and charity (SEL here too)....Thus, in terms of versatility, it's ARR who tops. And, most importantly, he's always humble. Even Himesh isn't sporty when it comes to handling criticisms...Not to mention Malik and ID..
If it's about awards, it's again ARR all the way....about 16 filmfare, 4 national awards and countless others. Others have to go a long distance to match ARR's in this respect.

To those who regard ID, HR, Pritam, V-S etc as the top guys: They have yet to prove themselves in terms of consistency and versatility.

Best music director - ARR

It's ARR and only ARR....a couple of reasons
1. He broke the monotony of crappy tunes in B'wood
2. Took Indian music to an international audience
3. Composes in any language and is comfortable with all the regional sub-cultures in India..thus, his music has a pan-Indian appeal. The others' (except may be SEL and Shantanu) songs are good only for dancefloors
4. Consistently enthralling everyone for more than a decade
5. All the others mentioned in the question look upto ARR for inspiration and motivation

So, it's only ARR at the top at present. RD Burman may have been, but that's past..

Why is that Himesh Reshammiya even there on the list? How can you put him in the same category as Rahman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy?

Well, Mr. Reshammiya rocks, but for how long???
Its his voice making his music popular but people get bored after hearing the same stuff again n again.

After that its the trio of SEL.( The music of KANK is also nice).

And AR Rehman is old stuff......
