Thank God the film hasn't got anywhere in the Oscar race - there is far too much conceit in it's producer and lead (non)actor anyway.

Nothing surprising as long as politics prevail over wisdom

good that paheli has been left out in the cold.It is really stupid to expect a movie like Paheli to weave some magic. It might be good as a novel, but an attempt to bring it on to the celluloid is just pointless.I really pity Shahrukh for doing such kinda movies,as he deserves much better movies.Except for the vibrant colours and hues, nothing in the movie seems captivating.A film like Lagaan needs to be backed to the hilt as it is really a marvel by all means.Although we produce the maximum number of movies, our films dont reach the level of Oscars. We should stop worrying about these international awards as they are no means an yardstick to measure our content, our films, our themes, because they are in total contrast to each other. Our portrayal of emotions and characters is totally different from the people in the West,so how can we expect them to guage our films? It is only because of the simple fact that English has become the major language, these awards appeal to everyone at the global level.Despite all these differences,if our films make it to that level it really needs to be lauded. But just for the sake of it,we need not nominate some sub-standard movies and bring all of us down.

At first place Paheli was wrong choice for Oscar and I think nobody was surprise on this news.. This film even unable to impress domestic audience. Public census was for either BLACK or SWADESH deserve for Oscar entry from India. May be Amol palekar has big connection than others...

And did anyone serously expected Paheli to get 'in'? Perhaps when you idiots actually start making 'real' movies, then mayhaps the Oscar committee will feel inclined to consider your films for consideration. Until then, keep on churning out those god-awful song-and-dance badly made music-videos masquerading as 'movies'.

It got the treatment it deserved

Paheli was a lousy film.A commercial disaster. It shouldn't had been nominated at the first place.Sharukh's closeness to Gandhi family got the film a nomination. It was expected to fall flat at the Oscars. It happened.Black should have been the official entry. But the Gandhi family do not like the Bachchans anymore.Hence Black was not selected and to rub salt to injury,IT officials coerced Mr Amitabh Bachchan to fork out 5 crores from hospital.
