I do not think it deserved the oscar nominations. I do not understand how it even made for the nominations when there were good movies like Black; It is sheer politics that pushed Paheli, I think. Paheli does not represent the values of Indian Culture.
That is what you get when you send a wrong film. Thank God. Paheli did not get nomination. Otherwise there will be no difference in Filmfare and Oscar.
It was expected that some rubbish movie like Paheli was not selected at oscars. It was surprise to all indian people and most of the critics that how can film like Paheli selected for oscar ahead of Black which by far one of the best movie made in india in last fifty years by any yardstick. It was only movie which has chance of winning oscar if at all any indian movie ever had. There are obviously other reasons for Paheli going to oscars ahead of Black which are always there in country like India. But one thing is more interesting that people like Sanjay leela Bhansali did not speak word against that because they will require same stars for next films. Nothing will change here....!
Why is it that almost always Hindi films are only nominated to Oscars? There are really good films in other languages as well. Instead it is always Hindi film. It is not that many people care what movie is nominated from India. Ocars is a place where we can portray the film making skills of Indians. For this to be effectively provided, other language films should also be considered.
I am not at all surprised that \\\'Paheli\\\' did not get nominated to the Oscars. Though, I haven\\\'t seen the movie, but people who have did not like it. I think the movie which deserved to be nominated and also had a high probability of winning was \\\'Black\\\'. That is one movie that really moved people. It was different.
