in reply to a msg dat priyan is a copy cat

The owner of this post I think is not aware of Priyan s success career it seems, Even after being a south Indian , he claimed his own presence and position in the much lobbied Mumbai film industry. This is really an achievement when we see that our legendary and talented actors and artists from south were ignored just because they were people from south. Of course, he may not be an exemplary character in the eyes of contemporary art film makers, but still he has presented and made the old wines much sweeter and tastier for the common man. You cannot hold on to your rigidness if you watch a priyan movie, you laugh out , you will enjoy every minute of it. That should be the motto of an entertainer. Some one who always got negative approach to everything may find it difficult to conclude that, the complicated thing for a budding singer is to sing a song sung by a famous singer and if gets applause and appreciation from audience by his singing he is talented. Is that copying? For me it is hard to follow success in a row rather than succeed once. 'old wine matter again, making available the wine to all is a task, and priyan has done it, he made his people laugh like anything!Hats off

Herapheri is a copy of Malayalam super hit Ramji Rao Speaking (1987) by Siddique Lal. Priyan just remake it with Akshay, Shetty & Paresh.
But in Malayalam Priyan is one of the best directors. He directed so many wonderful movies using his own creativity..especially Thalavattam, Midhunam, Kilukkam, Vellanakalude Naadu...
A wonderful director...!!!

Thanks to Priyan

It is true that all Priyan's Hindi films are of Malayalam origin. Still his contribution to Hindi cinema is highly commendable because he added flavor to Hindi cinema and now viewers can expect different experience beyond the regular dishum dishum formulae. It also helped the Hindi belt knows the true class of Malayalam cinema. Earlier they were watching only sex Malayalam movies. There are many classics in Malayalam cinema despite the limitations of low budget and limited audience. The space problem was always there. In Hindi cinema, directors like him have more space and that is important for excellence. However, the perfection in Malayalam cinema especially comedy cannot be recreated in Hindi because the various vernacular style and ascent available in Malayalam language is not there in Hindi. For example, when Paresh Rawal tries to copy Innocents (Malayalam comedian) style, it looks awkward. If Priyan wants to excel in that area, he should learn vernacular Hindi styles and the same should be applied in his comedy scenes! Unfortunately, it is a daunting task. Anyway, thanks to Priyan for his contribution to both Malayalam and Hindi cinema.

Sibu Balan
Nothing great about Priyadarshan
by Sibu Balan on Dec 21, 2006 01:26 PM

He has quite a few good films in Malayalam to his credit (Although most of them are repackages just like what he is doing now in Hindi). Being a keralite, I rate Kilukkam and Chitram as his best. All the Hindi movies he make except for the Maalamaal express are remakes. I dont think he should get any credit for that. There are much more talented directors in Malayalam movies. Siddique-Lal, Rafi-Mecartin duos used to make very good movies. I think Priyadarshan's association with Mohanlal was the key to his career.

Please dont put forward your point when you dont know the reality. Of all the movies that Priyan had remade almost 3/4th of them are origin of his own mind and not others story. So please!

Hey vinay..
FYI.. 'Ye tera ghar Ye mera ghar' is the remake of his own malayalam movie - 'Sanmanassullavarku Samadhanam' where MohanLal played the role of SunilShetty in Hindi. This was made way back in the early 90's. if i remember correctly you are referring to the kannada movie where VishnuVardhan's the hero? this's actually a copy of the original mallu movie... i've watched both and you cannot compare the original with both kannada & hindi versions..

Priyan's fav movies
by Vinay on Dec 21, 2006 01:11 PM

Viraasat
Hera Pheri
Hungama
Bhaagam Bhag (hopefully)

Garam Masala is a no-no. Wonder why he made it. Doli Sajake Rakhna was a flop show. Dont know his obsession with family wars having atleast 3 brothers on one side. I know he copies from Malayalam and kannada movies(Ye tera ghar Ye mera ghar), but even then its ok. Hindi audiences get a taste of good humour sometimes.
