The art of getting attention
by Shrinivas on Sep 12, 2005 05:14 AM

I just can't understand why Mehta has to choose such topics. Why is it that the international media and our NRI breed like showcasing India as the land of the rope trick and snake charmers ? Why ? Things have changed a lot!! Im an Indian living abroad. And such media material is horrible. Mehta please grow up and start making sensible stuff

well this is all about how u have precieve the film. some people take as an eye opener and some as a bad film which is always talking about bad thins in our socity.
every coin has two sides one is good and offcourse the another one is bad. but we should look to both side then only we will judge our judgement. if you said bad then u r lacking is something because we are living in the same socity where these things happeing arond us. this is other thing that we dont want to look at them or try to escape from those cites. this film is all about to draw attention so we can get the idea what is happeing around us and how we should check this scenario to happen againg.

Dark side of India
by Vanishree on Sep 11, 2005 07:51 PM

Iam an Indian and iam proud of My Country. I live in Switzerland. I read your article and just got the feeling that people like Sujata Mehta and Mira Nair trying to show the negative side of india.

Agreed that everyone has the right to express what they think. Is it not possible to take an Story and Make a positive end of it. As we all go to see movies to forget our problems. Those 3 hours are enough to make us refresh.

Please Make serious movies Litely as we go to njoy them and not cry and be serious.

Thank you

Vanishree

Selling point
by iereporter on Sep 11, 2005 07:38 PM

All indian directors eying an intetrnational market will highlight bad things about India(eg:1930's treatment of widows). They knows what will sell better.

What is a "so called Indian"? And if Indians don't tell their
stories, even the dark ones, who will?

water movie on widows
by Umesh Sharma on Sep 10, 2005 11:53 PM

I fail to see any point in the Fire movie's message - but on widows (Water) seems to have relevance. Why does she not a make a movie on widow remarriage as espoused by Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in 19th century? Why doesn't she make a movie against Sati - Divrala incident in Rajasthan in 1980s or about Devdasis?

About the previous comment -- if Indians themsleves started raising these issues - NRIs would not have to do so - but while in India - there is always the spectre of social and financial boycott.
