Goblet of Fire: Not for muggles
by lokesh sapre on Nov 21, 2005 04:24 PM

I enjoy Harry Potter movies. Have enjoyed each and every installment of it. Right from the baby faced Harry edition to the boy-coming-of-age in this episode. I loved the way you have written your review but found your comments of comapring the people who have not read the book to 'lesser mortals' or in other words muggles as somewhat degrading. I don't think you really need to to read the book to understand the movie. If you have kept track of previous 3 movies also then the movie is understandable. Fair enough that reading the book gives you much more exaustive viewpoint but even if you don't read the book and have watached all the movies, you can still connect and understand the 'humor' & other 'sequences' that you mentioned in the review.

not magical at all

Its very hard to pull off a movie which is as good as the book itself. Peter Jackson managed to pull it off in LOTR, Mike Newell doesnt quite get it in Goblet of Fire. He did a good job of cutting the huge story into a 2 and half hour movie. But in the end it doesnt really satisfy. For me the only reason probably was that I already know all the story and what was going to happen next. The special effects are awesome but so are in almost every hollywood movie nowadays. Rupert Grint is quite good, but Emma Watson still overacts. Radcliffe is just ok. The supporting cast does manage to impress but the characters are all reduced to just that - supporting cast. They do not come across as real and believable as in the book....and worst of all the pace is all skewed. The beginning and the end race by while the middle is so slack, especially in the yule ball. Since the 5th and the 6th book were awefully bad i dont expect the movies to be any better. So its just a long wait till they release the 7th one because frankly I am now quite sick of HP.

Review the reviewer

While Lavanya's dedication is commendable, her writing style isnt. The editors need to edit - and help out - new authors more rigorously
Felt like a dementor has sucked the life out of this review :)

I agree..kind of

Hey there...good review. Yeah, a muggle would never enjoy goblet of fire like Potter maniacs would. But i have MANY complaints to make. Firstly, Ron & hermione had NO chemistry...this was sad considering the fact that they had amazing tension in Prisoner of Azkaban! Yup, i agree about Dumbledore being loud & threatening, NOT at all true to J.K. Rowling's original character. And must poor Ron always become a caricature when Rupert Grint plays him? I love the actor, he's perfect casting but can he please NOT look goofy & sulky all the time?? And the Yule Ball wasnt well handled either..a shrieky emma watson didnt help!
All in all, i loved the way the end was handled. Voldemort was terrifying & Diggory's death did make me feel awful.
But prisoner of azkaban was better!

Potter:Rita Skeeter MIA...
by Nikita on Nov 20, 2005 11:38 AM

Good review fellow potter maniac.
Just one more addition: Another person whos character has been drastically cut down is
Rita Skeeter. Details of her being an animagus have been totally ignored....wonder why.
Shes an interesting character. Also wish i could c more of the Weasly twins. But its
still an awesome movie, so enjoy!

Great Piece
by padma on Nov 20, 2005 10:18 AM

A very well written piece. just same as my thoughts and experience.

i saw the movie yesterday with 3 wizards and one muggle. the muggle hated the movie and the wizards truly enjoyed it.

cedric was AWESOME!! truly good looking guy ;)

harry, ron and hermione were as usual lovable. the scene where fred and george are thrown back out of the age line was terrific and very well done.
there were lots of comedy elemnts which make the movie truly enjoyable.
the movie is very near the book and has some acceptable changes.

hats off to mike!!

Goblet of fire - Not for muggles

Thanks Lavanya, u have really given the true picture of all muggle audience feelings. Infact I has the same experience today with 3 muggles (my friends).

But as a wizard I was really impressed for eacha nd every shot of the movie.
Thanks to the wonderful sound and visual system of Trafokino theatre in switzerland.

The effect of Durmstrang nd Bauxbutotns champions arrival, and the first task with Hungarian Horntail are mind boggling.

It is must to mention our proudness that parvati patil and her sister padma will get chance to go for ball with Harry and Ron, and they are perfectly dressed in our Desi fashions.

Some definite scenes are there to make muggles to cheer but more or less Indian muggles will come out from theatres with same feeling, it is similar to our chandamama stories.

I assure to all other wizards, u can surely get value for u'r expectations, money and time.
