excellent direction vidya, saif sanjay are outstanding
by deepti on Jun 19, 2005 04:02 PM

Parineetha is beautifully narrated, scripted and directed. The settings are really good.Vidya Balan as a silent,self-respecred woman is a perfect choice for the role. She has the eyes which speak every thing.Saif as a possessive and passionate lover is excellent. This is the best role he had ever done.Sanjay justifies his role with ease. But the climax where saif breaks the wall between his house and that of vidya's is a bit too loud and unnatural for this soft and silent movie. But that can surely be ignored.Go watch and enjoy the movie

We can't ask for better than this
by Zulfiqar Gul on Jun 18, 2005 05:10 PM

I have been following the Bollywood movies for the last 10 years, but I havent seen artistic movie like Parineeta , the movie is absolutely mind blowing. Its a beautifully told story where character carries something which is worth to watch . Every actor and actress done justice to their characters. Bengali literature always fascinates me, Bollywood is doing well by making movies on Bangali literature. Bollywood should keep this going.I sincerely hope that Pakistani films directors will also start making movies on folk literate, which always produces artistic pieces, but they havent got due projection. Well done Bollywood for showing imaginations.Trust me,you can't ask for better than this.

Parineeta...
by Koushik on Jun 18, 2005 11:45 AM

Parineeta is a refreshing cool breeze - it soothes, it takes you to another world, it refreshes you, it makes you forget all your worris and for those 2 and a half hours you get transported to that magical world of charm, beauty, aura and old world sensuousness (Rekha). The movie got a lovely story, the period look is authentic, the heroine and the other girls also are charming (Vidya Balan is excellent as the Bengali girl and nobody can make out that this is her debut movie. She acts like a veteran) and they act so naturally. Saif looks like a pure sophiticated Bengali babu of 60's (dont forget he is a half bengali)and gives a such a spontaneous performance. Sanjay Dutt is also impressive though he looks a little older to his role. Music is really lilting and it lingers in your ears. The only hitch is the wall breaking climax. But that can be pardoned when you assess the movie in overall. I fully agree Parineeta is a must see.

It is indeed ! ! !

Bollywood certainly has come of age. We have seen quite a few good films this year and Pradeep Sarkar's first attempt is really commendable.Saif, Vidya Balan and Rekha (in her cameo appearance) are brilliant. Saif shows what he is capable of while Vidya ( as correctly noted by Dinesh) emotes beautifully with her eyes. Rekha was a wonderful and apt surprise.
It is not that the film does not have its flip sides the songs could have been better. Apart from 'Piya bole' others will fail the test of time. The music director/lyricist would have done better rather than translating a bengali song to match the tune. I thought Sanjay Dutt to be weak in some scenes. The ending was too bollywoodesque. However, all points considered it is a movie woth watching a number of times.

Parineeta Review from Amsterdam
by vickie on Jun 16, 2005 11:15 PM

Hi guys,
I had the fabulous good luck of watching Parineeta at the premiere in Amsterdam - along with Saif, Vidya, Diya, Raima, Vindu Vinod and the whole crew!
The movie is simply fabulous. I do not like the normal run of the movies generally and try to avoid them as much as I can. But this one impressed even me!
I got a chance to speak to Saif after the movie and he said that he took on this role to help him grow as an actor. And boy has he done that in Parineeta! He is simply marvelous. Really shows his range and depth as an actor.
Vidya Balan was quite amazing as well. Perfect for the role. Beautiful and brilliant.
Music is really amazing also, ofcourse. The setting is very evocative of the 60s. All in all, a fabulous - do not miss - movie.
I really did dislike the last 10 mins of the movie though - very bollywoodesque. We could have gotten the message of what the characters were trying to say and do by simple, subtle acting - which is what they did the whole movie through. And in the end, they had to hit you on the head with a hammer - quite literally - to convey emotion!
Even with that, its still a fabulous movie. One the of best I have seen in a long long time.

Avg movie
by Amit on Jun 16, 2005 12:40 PM

I think the movie was very ordinary and the last scene of the movie was total disaster. I don`t know how long the bollywood filmakers would do the "usual mis-communication" routine , it totally sucks . It is definately better than other bollywood trash(read shahrukh khan etc) but it lacks in character potrayal, the movie doesn`t look like it`s 60`s , and guess what Elvis Hound Dog was released in 1956 (not in 1962).
