Rajni watches `Jogi`!

The Tamil superstar Rajnikanth along with Kannada icon Dr.Rajkumar saw the Kannada film 'Jogi' at PVR Forum in Koramangala on Monday 4.30 pm show.

After the popular song Ello Jogappa Ninna Aramane.... , Rajnikanth stood up and clapped for the style of presentation of the song and for its lyrical value. I am really moved with the mother and son sentiment, said Dr.Rajkumar after watching the film. Remember that Dr.Rajkumar had done a lot of films with mother sentiments in the past.

Rajnikanth spoke to Prem, the director of Jogi for 10 minutes and later hugged Shivrajkumar the hero of the film in appreciation. Meanwhile grapevine is abuzz with rumours that Rajni may pick the subject of Jogi for his son-in-law Dhanush.

JOGI JABARDAST

JOGI JABARDAST
Sold for highest remake price

Report by - CNB Photos - K.M. VEERESH Date -25th August 2005 Time -119.30 AM

Still from JogiPerhaps in the annals of Kannada cinema history the highest remake rights could be attributed to Jogi Kannada film. The outright sale for Tamil and Telugu remake rights put forward by Mr Vellam Kota Suresh for Rs.1.08 crores has been turned down. Instead only for Telugu remake rights the Jogi story has been sold for Rs.63 lakhs says the gleeful Prem talking to media persons at Chancery Hotel in Bangalore on the day of release of the film. Prem himself is making it in Tamil. In the queue there are 8 persons asking for the rights. But he is hell bent on doing it in Tamil reason the mother and son sentiment aptly suits Tamil cinema he says.

Jogi has many records to its credit. 72 prints on the 72 years of Kannada films, 172 theatres release and 353 show a day is the startling news. The first week share of Jogi for Ashwini Ramprasad is Rs.3 crores excluding the theatre that comes to around Rs.2 crores.

If there is no story line then why would a Telugu producer buy the story of "Jogi" for record 63Lakhs.

BTW that Telugu producer couldnt get the Ticket, even through Prem, instead baught the Ticket in Black paying some 1000bucks:)

Dipanjan:
Either you havent seen the movie or not heard of the story! I have heard of the story and it seemed pretty nice. I have spoken to a couple of guys (kannadigas who rarely watch a kannada movie) who saw this because of the hype, and they were more than impressed with it!

Most ppl seem to say it was surprising that there was no violence. I wouldnt call the storyline extra-ordinary, but it does have some decent story. I dont want to compare but neither did Sarkar, and more than decent hindi movies released recently. I wouldnt call sarkar boring or as having a wafer-thin story line. It was very decent cinema.

As for Jogi, I would care less for the story, and would queue upto watch "just" for the songs! Now if you know kannada and have heard the songs, you would know why!

Take care and ppl, enjoy the movie and post your review.

Conflicting versions!!!
by Prashanth on Aug 25, 2005 08:31 AM

It's really confusing to see all the newspapers posting good reviews for Jogi but lots of commoners condemning it outright. Will some enlightened soul give the real picture??

Enviable entertainer

That is the verdict from Hindu. Though I havent seen the movie, seeing all the different reviews makes me crave to see the movie which I cant bcoz I am in the USA.

Jogi (Kannada)
Cast: Shivrajkumar, Arundhati Rao, Ramesh Bhat,

Ashwini films' Jogi is based on the classical theme of search and irresistible desire for reunion. Melancholy, tragic undertones and insured mother - son fixation in the backdrop of urban underworld and rustic realities elevate Jogi and prevent it from becoming another run of the mill film on rural simplicity and blood thirsty underworld.

Clever screenplay, calculated and realistic narrative technique by director Prem, effective employment of rustic and underworld dialects, good photography (Seenu) and a couple of haunting tunes (Gurukiran ) have helped Jogi meet the expectations of film buffs.

Madesha (Shivrajkumar), who sports the Michael Jackson hairstyle, has an irresistible passion for rustic street dance like his mother Bhagyakka (Arundhati Rao) who wants to please his childlike son. After the death of his ailing father, Madesha leaves for Bangalore in search of livelihood. .........
