The movie didnt have a good narration and the second half though quick didnt have the fire, and also didnt have enough drama to raise emotions . The theater where i saw the movie was running houseful with most of them youngsters. Its stupid to say youth cannot relate . The whole topic of Mangal Pandey was a topic of discussion right from the time the posters started coming in .. The reason for the marginal returns is .. Film is okay ..
The collections of Mangal Pandey are not just phenomenal, theyre mind-boggling. It is a never before hit on the Indian scene. The biggest hit so far ever has been Veer Zaara. This is way ahead. And whats even more remarkable is that it is released with 1000 prints worldwide, with higher ticket rates and with an almost double the number of shows daily and is still going to packed capacity. We cannot even begin to imagine the collections; and its increasing by word of mouth with the collections growing. It is the greatest grosser ever. And even bigger in the UK and USA. Those talking of mixed reactions are the usual industry people for whom all movies are mixed. -Taran Adarsh, Trade Analyst
Its got an earth shattering response across the country. Never seen before ever in history of Indian cinema. With the same response abroad. Bombay, it collected 56 lakhs on first day vis a vis the previous biggest Veera Zaara which had 32 lakhs. And its getting stronger at 100% collections every day. -Bobby Bedi Producer, The Rising
The kind of collections its getting across the country have to be seen to be believed and its growing with word of mouth
u guys at rediff dont noe anythin swades and bhagat sigh was not a flop they were hit u wanna proof of that mangal madey had a mindblowing start then go and check india fm where aamir speakes about its busiiness it self and in overseas the move stormed the uk and usa box office so think before u write somethin k peace
If Indian audiences make a ridiculous, stilted film like veer Zara a huge success, and even rave about an artificial school play like KKKG, how can they appreciate a purposeful and intense film like The Rising, in spite of exquisite acting by the cast ?
Swadesh, despite a superb portrayal by Shah Rukh Khan was a mite like a documentary- so agreeably it did not click; but when an arresting film like The Rising , or an interestingly experimental film like Paheli don't click, one can only say Alas ! the Indian audience !! Surekha Hyderabad
why are you so aggresive to declare this movie as a flop which is far away from the truth. All reports are positive about the films' business except your site which always write some baseless, stupid, imaginary things about the movie. But remember one thing, no one cares about your false news/opinions. The truth will come out very soon. The way you are trying to divert people's attention from this fim, it's not going to work. There must be some nasty politics behind this.....
From the last two days there is an effort on the part of Rediff to denounce the movie Mangal Pandey. While it may have received mixed reviews from the critics, it is a sure shot hit as far as collections from the box-office are concerned. Critics may say what they want but its the public that matters as the movies are made for them not the critics.
You guys don't talk using facts and are just out to spread the untruth. You should be ashamed of distorting the truth like you do every now and then. Look at some of these links to get your facts right:

From the US - this is probably the biggest opening for a hindi movie till date in the US. Look at the link below: http://movies.nytimes.com/pages/movies/boxoffice/weekend_us/
