The reviewer makes a blatantly false statement "Comedy in Tamil Movies is usually slapstick -- Senthil ...". This shows two things -- 1) The reviewer does not watch a lot of Tamil movies 2) Has a tendency to make statements without thinking through and checking on facts.
I would bet that Comedy in Tamil movies is more cerebral than movies in most other languages. Traditionally from erstwhile years, this has been the case (from N.S. Krishnan times etc.).
Sad to see such flippant comments about Tamil movies.
I know Kamal is real good. But Siddhu Warrier, ur slighting Senthil-Goundamani comedy to prove ur point is futile. Goundamani ROCKS! don't compare Kamal's style with his and mess things up. simply beacuse u use ur brain more for one kind of comedy doesnt make it superior. its just different.
U thought chandramukhi was terrible? I agree that it was indeed a scene by scene faithful remake of the malayalam hit and it was rendered beautifully. Having seen both the malayalam and tamil versions of the movie i think both movies were awesome. So u use the adjective terrible - please define terrible for the record (ok the stunts were so) but am not kidding the euphoria generated by the movie was awesome - 1300 seating capacity in a free seating arrangement theatre in singapore (where i live), 2500 people came and some saw the movie standing and nobody left...ok u'd probably say we were dying for indian movies...same affect in chennai where the crowds thronged the theatres and those people mail a bunch of schoolmates thro a yahoo group and have 60 mails going back and forth abt the movie...and how gr8 it was...maybe mumbai express in tamil rocks (havent seen it) but b4 u place an adjective like terrible please get a public opinion...maybe thats not the point of a review but review it in all fairness and get the facts right...
Same Movie,but in different Languages, What Rediff reviewers come with? completely different Reviews. Is rediff confused about what it is trying to say?
What depth of Tamil movie knowledge does siddhu warrier has to make a comment that Tamil comedy is all about Senthil and koundamani. It shows the poor knowledge of the Reviewer about Tamil movie industry. Tamil comedies start a long way back and has some of the best comedians in the movie industry.
Similarly one reviewer says Chandramukhi is a hit, and the other says it is pathetic? whats happening to rediff.
This comment is not about the movie Mumabi Express.Rather it is about how ridiculous Warrier's comment on comic element in Tamil movies is.

Have you heard of Mr Nagesh....Warrier. Ever heard of Baliaah or Thangavelu. Or if these are of the last generation, do you know about the existence of guys like Vadivelu and Vivek. Show me a guy who can replace Vadivelu in WINNER...i'll show you a genius. GOD ! he has to be seen to be believed. Agreed that there was a time when GOUNDAMANI and SENTHIL ruled the roost. But that is a thing of the past. If you can't appreciate the humour of Vadivelu and Vivek, atleast shut up. Don't make such stupid comments. In order to praise Kamal you did not have to insult the whole industry, which in my opinion along with Malyalam produce the best comedies in the country.
I don't know why Mr. Kamal always stands behind of herione's, but I do know that she will raise her hand or saree and it will hurt Mr. Kamal's eyes. All in theater expect me will laugh. I believe its new :-) and unique for Kamal ( for some years ).
And when speaking, don't compare other. And I believe Mrs. Doubtfire is copied from Avvai S. and Charlie's Angles and Saving Private Ryan owes Alavanthan. Bull S... . Remember all Kamal films whether they're comedy or art, tells only one thing. And it is "Kamal is great and great actor". Every time, he takes film for himself and fans got to watch it. But this time, he gave trash-songs to his fans. In tamizh, it is termed as 'thanliyil kanttapatthu'. Poor fans.

The reviewer should be really biased to say Mumbai express is a ladder above the rest, when the Hindi version says Manisha is a complete dud, how you can you justify a very good review for her? I know comedy might be better in Tamil than in Hindi.Also degrading chandramukhi,taking a shot at it proves the reviewer is in awe of kamal hassan. Chandramukhi got a good review the first day.
