Well said Amitabh
by Vivek P. Madani on Mar 15, 2004 08:10 PM

It is a good gesture by Big B to reply back to a letter published in reader's column in some newspaper. This shows how much he cares for such things.

Also I agree with all the explanation given by Mr. Bachchan. It is nothing to do with him. This is just another example of how media blows out a small incident.

We have this tendency in India to belittle our own stars, be it Mr. Bachchan or Sachin Tendulkar we can never speak anything good about them. Guys, these are the people who have entertained us, please be considerate to them and give them their due recognition.

Cheers,

Bravo Big B

However, it was very small of you to seek to redress yourself in front of such a small person hyped our of virtual reality.

Reply of Mr. Bachhan
by Shailesh Kenkre on Mar 15, 2004 07:20 PM

Well said Mr. Bachhan, a person of your stature need not have even replied to this uncessary controversy.

Not a single incident of misbehavior or attitude has been reported of Mr. Bachhan in his entire career of three decades...so this is ridiculous to think that he took offence or felt slighted to be made to sit near the so called 'ordinary' audience.

I entirely agree with his view that it is the public, the audience which can make or break a star...not the media...as rightly pointed by his own example.

And finally, give the guy his due respect for if not anything than having entertained us consistently over the past few decades as also having lived a dignified life under the watchful media...and the public.

Mr. Bachhans reply to a thoughtless remark of an individual
by amit bhatia on Mar 15, 2004 07:16 PM

Mr.bachhan,s response to the letter in mid ay in itself an indication of the stuff he is made off. The lady perhaps does not understand the NEED to seperate celeberities from the so called ordinary people . Because in a mass they are quite capable of using blades in their hands when patting you on the back ..... Hence even if mr. bachhan demanded a seperate placement he was fully justified (though he obviously did not).
You read a response like this from him and you know why nobody can be quite like him .

Amitabh your reply shows that you are of a different class- and so true for you to acknowledge PEOPLE POWER.
What Bollywood needs today is fresh perspectives, new ideas and novel ways of working/reacting
KHAKEE and BAGHBAN have taken you to different level - touch the masses' emotions , touch them with realities, remain an ordinary soul---
How I wish I had an AMAR SINGH as a friend

Amitabh is truly great - and humble
by Tim Timepass on Mar 15, 2004 06:49 PM

Amitabh is one superstar from Indian cinema who has kept its sanity alive. There are a few others who come to mind, but Don is the perfect gentleman and the people's man. Fate has thrown him many a yorker, and his career beginnings did not come to him easily. Who can forget the Coolie incident, the political debacle and the ABCL fiasco ? This man has seen good and bad, and has always maintained his stature. Sir, you have my respect. God bless you, and India is fortunate to have a hero like you.

A person's greatness is measured in the manner in which he behaves during the minor matters of life. What better proof than this 'explanatory' letter to indicate that Mr. Bacchan's stature has not dropped. To accept with all humility that it is the masses who create and destroy the 'stars' does not come easily to many of his ilk.

May his tribe increase.

Walking Tall...
by Bragadeesh Srinivasan on Mar 15, 2004 06:43 PM

When this was reported - undeservedly - on the first page, I didn't believe it.
I have always believed that celebrities who are made by the people will have some genuineness in them. Amitabh, in spite of his imposing presence and his quixotic behavior has in my final equation come out quite honest - at least compared to the others in his industry.
This letter, if he actually wrote it, is further testimony to the fact that Bachchan is one of a kind.
His culture and civility are so evident in it.

Of course, in a totally unrelated note, I would like it he did lesser commercials!! TV is suffering from a "Amitabh Clutter".

Disrespect shown to a living legend
by Sujit on Mar 15, 2004 06:35 PM

It's really bad to hear the disrespect shown to the living legend of Indian film industry.I think Amitabh bachchan is icon not only in India but all over the world. And just Because of him people all over the world have started recognising Indian films. And i really fail to understand that specially on film award function he is not given proper care. Now he is in the last phase of the carrer, and this is the farewell we r giving to a man, through which now bollybood is associated. He has not only shown in films his mettle, but in real life too he is pure gentleman.Look at the way he talk, laugh,or move.People tends to associate him with themselves. No one is closer to him.And he doesn't have to prove anything to anybody. He is the king of Bollywood. And will remain for ever.So stop this nonsense and try to take care of him.
I do hope the concerned people will understand this and would never ever demoralize him or make him feel embarasses.
