I think no artists of today matches the beauty, dance, maturity shown by Vyaijayanti Mala and Sunil Dutt in Amrapali. The slim, trim, chicken-figured artists like Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, Akshay Khanna, Amir Khan are no match beside the Strongly built, long heighted, wide long armed and shouldered and matured Sunil Dutt. They are fit for the movies like "Disco Dancer", "Khilari" etc. and free to sing "Papa Kehte Hai", but never classics like Amrapali. And Shahrukha Khan? That Chinese man who speaks in a goat-voice and thousand times shakes his head? Who made Devdas a "Disco Devdas"? Sorry. And Aisharya Ray? That cat-faced foreigner? Never. Sridevi appeared in a recent film award ceremony, and she looked terribly diseased and old. Madhuri Dixit is better, besides, she can dance, but she has also grown a little old. Banshali would need some great make-up artists to maintain her young look. She ought to dance well like Vyaijayanti Mala, not only act or look well. --AAKAASHH GALAXY, KOLKATA, 7th May, 2011.
No no not at all Madhuri.....not even Aishwarya or any other todays bollywood beauties are capable to act AMRAPALI'S character with full justice on big screen with all its beauty and inteligence.
The one and only is Vyjayanthimala. And if there is any second chance for some other bollywood actress then Legend Meena kumari and Hema Malini and after thatno body else. in the charecter of Ajaatshatru only Pradeep kumar will suit after Sunil Dutt. so there is less chance to remake such a big drama AMRAPALI for silver screen with all its grace.
The movie Amrapali is a masterpiece and any remake should be able to set a new standard. I think the remake should star Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devagan in the lead roles. Of course the new movie should have lesser songs and dance when compared to the current standards.

Sridevi will be the best option in case they have to choose from the past generation otherwise sonali would be great...and akshay?! plzzzzzzzzzzz ... hrithik would be the best ...
totally agree with the thoughts,Madhuri and Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the best who can do this but akshay kumar no way, i think aamir khan or sanjay dutt can do justice to the role.
Madhuri will be the perfect choice for Amrapali. I am sure the kind of committed artist she is, she will shed few kilos to do that role. How about Arjun Rampal as Ajaatshatru? And Amitabh Bachchan as Bimbisaar, Ajaatshatru's father?
I think Aishwarya is the right choice for Amrapali ,Madhuri looks a matured lady .Probably Akshay Khanna or Milind Soman would do justice to Ajaatshatru. Akshay Kumar is no doubt, one of the worst actors.
