anoop saxena is outdated!
by siddharth on Jun 21, 2004 11:44 AM

mr saxena before you go about charging others check uot your own limitations. firstly there is nothing as second lieutenant in the army. it was done away with long back. secondly the plans which are made are kept a very good secret with limiting people knowing and to err is only human. another the introductory speech given by amitabh bachchan is meant to be like a class room discussion. everybody knows about war buy very few know how to face it. farhan akhtar has done a brilliant job. you must remember what he is potraying-the viewpoint of the character not the war itself. if you want to watch a war documentry try discovery channel else watch LOC, it's like you. it too SUCKS!

Review ,Good Special effects
by jayan on Jun 21, 2004 10:02 AM

Good Special effects , best ever in Indian Movies, Path breaking for Indian movies. Good and different acting. if u compare with saving private ryan, thin red line..then Farhan could made better or should improve from here. But in general one of the 3 good movies in 21 century.

Lakshya is 'just another movie'

For starters, there are no more 2nd Lts in the army, the ranks begin with Lt, so Anoop that is one point out of the way. But all the other observations? I agree with, though I guess movies and realism are oxymorons so one should go and enjoy them and not worry about the finer points. Cheers!

Anoop Saxena Sucks...
by satish on Jun 21, 2004 03:09 AM

Anoopw, your review brings out cheap thinking. If the army guys would have thought the same way as u think then kargil would have never been won by India. So just shut up and enjoy a good movie rather than trying to disect a well made moview. I cant under satnd why guys like you take to film critic. You should atleast have to appreciate the effort taken by these guys to make a movie like Lakshya. So once again just shut up and dont critcise a well made movie

Kannan
anoop is correct
by Kannan on Jun 21, 2004 02:34 AM

I think anoop has hit the nail on the head -- the second half of the movie is SO FULL of cliches -- that it makes u puke --- also -- just like Software - Farhaan seems to use the same "components" again & again -- eg: - Dad / Son talk on phone (son crying), the hero crying in seclusion, the guy enagaged to the heroine always tries to control her & is a hypocrite (dialogue: "shaadi ke baad bhi tum mujhe bologe mujhe kya karna hai aur kya nahi" -- exact lift from DCH ! -- Give us a break ! ) - the movie's second half is TERRIBLE -- UNWATCHABLE ! - Farhan's direction does not deserve to be called "path breaking" as so many others have described it -- I had high expectations after his DCH -- This movie is a TERRIBLE let down !

Lakshya Disappoints
by surya on Jun 20, 2004 06:50 PM  | Hide replies

If Lakshya is dissappointing for me, its probably the unjustified hype in the review for it on Rediff. I wish rediff changes its movie reviewing staff. They are too amateur, sometimes the readers reviews are much better. Frankly speaking Lakshya was a confused movie, the movie had no Lakshya. I dont know the point in making a 3 hour slow paced movie further slowed down by songs. With the Standards set by DCH by Farhan, Lakshya surely dissappoints. For guys looking for fresh ways to tell stories i suggest you watch the tamil movie Autograph

We put songs in our movies because songs and dance are rooted in our culture. Bollywood movies have a specific story-telling structure and that format should not be tampered with by a bunch of West-loving fools.

2nd Lieutenants are referred as Lieutenants
by Karan on Jun 20, 2004 01:28 PM  | Hide replies

The reviewer doesn't seem to realise that in practice 2nd Lieutenants are also called Lieutenant in the army except during very formal occassions. The reviewer is nitpicking where no nitpicking is warranted.

our films have a structure, but it wudnt crumble if there were no songs and dance sequences, even west movies have songs oh u ignorant desi but they are in the background. A movie like DTPH required full length songs and dance sequences, love movies with no stories required these songs to drag the movie, but Lakshya dint need it as i said it wud just have played in the BG. Having full it full length slowed the narration.
