I am a fan of Rafi sab from many years,i also used to hear the songs of Mukesh before, but once i happen to see one movie of Dev Anand(guide) then from that day to today,i am biggest fan of RAfi Sab,as one of the brother mentioned,Rafi sab should deserve a National Award.
Rafi was undoubtedly one of the greatest playback singers of Indian Cinema. But in praising him why denigrate other singers? Why say yodelling is an antic and indirectly take potshots at Kishore? Lets face it, Kishore has left his own mark with his versatality in that he could yodel around in a lively number and bring pathos to a sad song at equal ease without ever overdoing it. You can't stress the overdoing part enough because in my opinion there hasn't been another singer in Indian cinema who had a better grasp of emotions than Kishore. There are tons of examples where Rafi cries all over a song or screams at the top of his lungs. That said Kishore never made a mark with Ghazals or classical songs where Rafi fared better. To say that Talat and Mukesh were better singers than Rafi displays a total lack of understanding of singing. Neither had the range nor the grasp on sur nor were versatile enough to come even close to Rafi let alone exceed him. They had their share of good renditions which are worth treasuring but they can never be listed in the pantheon of singers who reached the summit. If you want to begin the comparison, then start with Lata and Asha and go from there.
Everyone talks about Shammi,Rajendra Kumar,Biswajeet, Joy Mukherjee etc.. I think Rafi sang the most number of songs for Dharmendra....Countless of them were superhits as well as classics.. Dharmendra-Rafi had hits from the following films: -Dulhan ek raat ki -Aap ki parchaiyaan -Devar -Aaya Sawan Jhoom ke -Tum Haseen Main Jawaan -Aye din bahaar ke -Dharamveer -Kajaal -Maan ka mandir
Especially LP(Laxmikant-Pyarelal) Dharmendra, Rafi trio was amazing..
