He was a contender, he was somebody. Alas, God gave him an offer which he could't refuse.

The Best that ever was
by Gautam on Jul 13, 2004 11:14 AM

Marlon Brando was the best that ever was.He redefined acting and brought acting to another level. His several performances have been praised but can any cinemgoer ever forget his stunning performance in the Godfather. His charm and ruthlessness in the film according to me made him what he is today.A Legend.

Nostalgia doesnt make for a Fair Analysis
by Prasanna on Jul 12, 2004 01:24 PM

I always wonder... why is it that people assume that people from the past were terribly great? that anyone who came after is a moron?
I havent got much against Brando - I hvnt seen any of pictures except for the Godfather - but surely there have been n will be many great actors after him.

I think its pathetic on people's part to deny modern day greats equal adulation as the older ones.
Its pathetic to say for example that The Don, was, for example, much greater than Sachin Tendulkar, or Sunil Gavaskar.. or W.G Grace.. or Ranjitsinhji even. (sorry but i dont recollect the older greats names)
The fact is al of them lived in different eras.. there's a helluva difference technology has made in these years n the eras just arent static for us to say "A is greater than B"
U are very welcome to choose any other dicpline - n u will see that a lot of the times.. the eras are different. VERY different in terms of society, competition, average level of competence.

True, Marlon Brando, The Don, Pele, or Fangio(f1 Great) put in some stupendous performances.. but that doesnt mean that the ones who came later need to be compared to them.. to be called "great"

End of a millenium
by Anurag Kumar Agarwal on Jul 10, 2004 02:21 PM

Brando was the last of the decent guys of Hollywood who could be respected . Now Holly is populated by a bunch of idiots. First Bronson, then Gregory and now Brando it is too much to take too much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many rediff reader even heard Brando\\\'s name?
by SRK_for_YOU on Jul 10, 2004 01:36 AM

This news is useless for most of the rediff readers as most of them are ignorant about him and his films. They are rather happy with Salman Khan and Shahruk Khan. No time for others.
