Kamal, U Have done good job as a Director, but in this film we are missing your great acting sequences.Anyhow a great movie in Tamil like a Kurunji flower, a typical village subject with newly & technically blended varieties.
kamal has done a good job as director, one should watch the movie in technical, the way the story is narrated by showing the flash back in two part, second part of the flashback tells the real fact. As a director kamal has really done excelent home work to execute and make the crowded screen come as lively to watch. Abirami and Pasupathy has done great job.
Illayaraja's melody songs is also a highlight to this movie..., Illayaraja Kamal Hassan pair is never a failure.
This movie is not reachable to normal class, like ANBE SIVAM

The movie did reach the normal class and became a hit. In villages, it fared very well and collected huge profits. In chennai's satyam theatre, Virumandi broke the previous records in weekend collections.
Please..please....dont let bollywood remake this movie....please...please...dont...i cannot see another Dayavan (nayakan in tamil) or Virasat (thevar magan in tamil.....please
I agree by and large with your review but for the following points. Firstly about the skin color of Virumaandi. In reality, there are fair skinned people of that community and that is why Kamal wouldn't have felt it necessary to alter his complexion. In Devar magan too, Kamal had not blackened his face. Next about Kamal's acting, you seem to suggest that it is just ordinary. It is not. Perhaps you got this impression because his character is etched out that way. However, the way he portrays various moods right through the film is something extra-ordinary. What can perhaps be said is that his direction stands out better. Also, you have forgotten to mention the role of Ilayaraja in the film.

I think Kamal has once again proved that when it comes to versatality he is the best in the country. Kamal as a director has handled the screenplay(of his) in a totally different way and special credit for the art director Prabhakar.Great opening for this new year.
dear kamal, you have shown one more dimension of your talent. the direction is well planned and nicely executed. there has been homework and thinking behind every scene. each scene has many views. the acting of the whole cast had been good. i have seen people in rural areas the gang leaders and the dominants to be well built and fair and stout.it goes well for you kamal.a black make up is not necessary.one more excellence is is music by raja'.
Definetly a movie worth watching an amazing experience and after a long time songs by the great Maestro which gives a rustic feel and lifts the mood of the film.
