Shahrukh Khan's first release was Deewana starring Rishi Kapoor and the now deceased Divya Bharti. The film was a success thanks to the music, the chemistry between Bharti and SRK and SRK's amazing screen presence. In fact SRK's entry after the interval really took the film's graph way high and though he did not get the girl in the end (something Shahrukh made a success of), he made a very big impact. Hence, Deewana was his ideal launchpad.
Saif Ali Khan's first release was Yash Chopra's Parampara, where he co-starred with Aamir Khan, Raveena and was paired opposite Neelam. The film did not do well and Saif didn't impress either. Aashiq Awara paired him opposite Mamta Kulkarni and though it did not showcase his comedic persona or suave image, the film itself was a commercial success.
