Hi Sukanya. You are wrong on two counts. First, as others have pointed out. SRK's first film was not Dil Ashna Hai, but Deewana. Second, Saif's first film was a dud named Parampara, made by Yash Chopra. Also, Sultanat was not such a bad film. I rather enjoyed all hte massive sets, and nice music, Garam Dharam et al. It was a paise vasool movies, in my opinion
I am probably one of the most illiterate readers of rediff. I just couldnt make even an iota of sense from your article "First Impressions....". Let me tell you this.. Kajol wouldnt have even been considered for Yash Chopra's DDLJ if she hadnt made a name for herself thru the so called non starter movies she did. 9 out of 10 actors/actresses always have the initial phase which is more of an unknown phase in Bollywood. They dont have a well organised script or anything to choose a movie from. They first try to get that first role and hope for the best. One needs to be extremely lucky to be cast in a big banner production on debut. Most of the artistes mentioned in your article went thru the unknown "God help me phase". I hope I have been clear to point out that big banners/corporations give you a chance only after sufficient experience.
Now that I have established the above fact, kindly let me know what was the intention of your article. I request you to kindly come up with some ideas of either entertainment or value. If this is too big an ask, kindly ignore the illiterate me. As always my comments are purely intented to bring the best out of you and Rediff.
Just one thought. I thought SRK's debut movie was Deewana with Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharati. Even if it wasn't then I suppose since it came before Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naan it would serve very well as SRK's ideal debut as implied by your columnist.
I think Shah Rukh Khan's debut movie was Deewana with Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharati and not Dil Ashina Hain as mentioned in the article. Considering it was his first feature film, he did a preety good job.
As far as Karisma is concerned she had to really fight it out with here family to join Bollywood. Again around the time she did her first movie Prem Qaidy, the qualities of movies wer'nt that good.
Shahrukh Khan debuted with the film "Deewana" starring Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharati in the lead roles. He makes an entry only in the second half. His second movie was Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. "Dil Aashana Hai" followed later and was not his debut movie.
