Boys - it isnt vulgar
by Rahul on Sep 30, 2003 05:11 PM

Boys as i see it is a very bold move by Shankar. I think the things he has portrayed about the todays youth is very much true. He has used the terms and stuffs which todays youth do or talk about.

There is nothing wrong in the movie when it comes to talk about sex. It is a very natural process and people todays youth that includes girls is very comfortable talking about such issues though not many will agree in public.

This movie shouldnt be banned but yeah it should be strictly restriced to people above 18 so that the young lot of today which is already advanced due to the internet does not get to know things like those at an early age.

Boys is a perfect movie for all the youth and I actually suggest people to go and watch that movie with a very positive frame of mind and all of you will enjoy it.

Boys is a cool and slick movie, and kept me riveted to my seat as i watched the entire movie.Shankar is a good film-maker and has been bold in making this movie. It should not be viewed as a vulgar movie, as it merely portrays "natural" behaviour of teens.

People in Chennai make a big fuss of everything
by Jayaraj Shantharam on Sep 12, 2003 03:11 PM

I really dont understand why such a hue and cry about "Boyz" has been made. Infact I have seen youth in Chennai leading a life a similar life like Boyz but after that pretend they are innocent.
So, let the parents check their wards first and then comment on the movies.

Stupidity

Guys!
It is stupid to ban movies because you don't agree with them. I watched Boys and got most of the jokes (I am not Tamil but I learned it from neighbors). It was good fun for adults over 18. What are we afraid of? People live and sex is a part of life. What is this need to supress anything related to sex? Stop those wild gyrations and groping every single part of the "Clothed" female body first! We thing groping body parts on the screen is fine but, when we talk about talking sex, everything changes!

Who in the world thought that a story about 5 teenage boys learning about sex is going to be a family story? Can't we have other kinds of movies? Why not have youg guys and girls watch the film and have a good laugh? Why be so uptight like a moronic old english woman? The movie was entertaining. If someone finds it offensive don't watch it. Don't deny people the right to watch whatever they want to. If the movie does not make money, no one will make such movies again. If it does then there is a market so don't impose your so called morality on others.

Cheers,
Sree.

boys is not vulgar...its the truth
by ravi on Sep 10, 2003 07:14 PM

hi guys...i dont know why people have been talking abt how boys has fared in tamilnadu...it might have been criticized there but in Hyderabad and rest of AP its been declared one of the best and bold films ever produced in the history of cinema...its been declared a superhit here...even many gals liked that movie for its boldness and the ease at which it presents issues of sex..i dont know why people want to degrade a film like this only to grab the limelight and also criticise the truth projected in the movie...but i certainly agree that this is not a movie to be watched with parents...but in hyderabad u can surely watch Boys with gals..may chennai guys n gals need to growup.

grow up !!

Agreed that one or two scenes in the film were over the top(esp the call gal one), but there are instances of urban youth engaging in such practices !!! and probably at least 50% of the college boys know it !! but apart from that, it was very much"todays lingo" used in the film.
what the film can be criticized for is crass storyline and putting up too much in the film(eg POTA,naxalites & the like)
the movie was for a college going audience and certainly not for family-viewing. also it is probably not for the school going teenagers as well.
but the desire for raking in money probably forced the makers of the film not to explicitly classify and advertise it as a "Urban College" genre movie. BIG MISTAKE !!
The problem in our society is the want of censors to control what the audience views & in turn dictate terms to filmmakers as to what they should make.
The solution is to probably classify films in genres(not just the usual A certificates !!)if the filmmaker so wishes.
