As a volunteer with the Cancer Institute in Chennai, I have come across some very distressing cases where Tobacco has ruined people's lives. I have always felt that although MAN is the only animal that can think or reason, and that puts us at the top of the value chain, the usage of tobacco proves the concept wrong.
Vivek Oberoi is a non-smoker in real life. I have always admired him not only for his acting prowess, but also the fact that he seems to be a disciplined human being which is a rarity these days.
However, in Company, for example, he is permitted himself to be depicted as a smoker. In fact, to me, Company looked like one long commercial supporting smoking - everybody seems to be smoking in this movie! If this isn't surrogate advertising, what it?My question is, when will film makers stop glorifying smoking in the name of character trait?
Instead of scaring smokers, can we look at addressing that section that is willing to quit, but doesn't know how?
the flim world should stop glorifing smoking. Hero's should refuse to act in movies that show them smoking. Smoking should be used only in places they show people die of smoking. It will be a good start to get rid of smoking
