Dear rediff.com friend, Hello! It's nice to know that Vivek Oberoi, Urmila Matondkar, Shashi Kapoor, Shaad Ali are campaigning on World No Tobacco Day in an ad film. Here are a few facts for all campaigners. 1)Tobacco kills Eight Lakh Indians every year. 2)Consumption of Tobacco (Bidi, Cigarette, Gutka, Paan Masala, etc.) causes Cancer leading to Death. 3)Innocent children 8-10 years first start consuming tobacco after getting wrongly influenced by Tobacco ads featuring Bollywood stars. These children later on become drug addicts to charas, brown sugar, etc. 4)Indian Parliament has banned advertisement (in newspapers, magazines, TV channels, radio, theatres, posters, etc.) of all types of tobacco (bidi, cigarette, cigar, gutka, paan masala, etc.). Good Luck to all campaigners Thanks Yours sincerely, Sandeep
How on earth can Vivek do an ad on non smoking when he himself smokes in all and every film he acts in. One has to practice what they preach and not just say or do something because you are in the position of doing so. Even if he doesn't smoke in real life, that image of him smoking in movies is what young people watch an idolize. So he better stop contradicting himself.
Vivek and Urmila r doing a great job.We hope to see more such campaigns in the future.Such campaigns in their little way help the people live a peaceful and a happier life.
