It's not about trends,it's about quality
by akshay on Nov 29, 2003 10:47 AM

Actually it's not about trends to choose it is about the strong script which drives the audiences to the theatres.Gone r the days when u'll just copy the trend of a hit movie and without a stong script u hope that ur movie will be a hit.
The audience today want quality script with a strong direction and it doesn't really matter what the subject is?

Chalte Chalte a pathetic copy of Sathiya
by S_Hegde on Jul 28, 2003 08:40 PM

well they may disagree but, it was a very bad remake of Sathiya and I was suprised and shocked to see Azeez Mirza coming up with such a loud, over the top presentation with Shahruk at his irritating best.

Deepa's bad critic
by david on Jul 28, 2003 03:20 PM

Hi NOMAN

You are right Deepa really makes a bad critic
never she praises any thing. She believes in only negative criticism.

Somany good films lost because of her negative criticism and ofcourse bad films not gained with her positive criticism.

Movie Trends

Following a hit movie in the form of an herd mentality is nothing unique to Hindi films. Living in the USA, this summer Hollowood season has been awful. All the Hollywood movie look and sound alike with no logic, outlandish special effects and poor story lines. In fact for the first time in a decade, this year the summer season will show no growth from the previous years. Theer are plenty of srticles in the US press about these loud sci-fi movies taht have no character development or logic. This does not mean the hindi/Indian films are superior or anys uch thing. Given that there are 1.2 Billion Indians in India, I expect the movie industry to make all kinds of movies with a wide range of variety. As for critics like this one - well they are mostly frustrated "inglis" speaking fools. Let the janata (as they always will) decide what they want to see.

MPKDH is indeed a flop
by Jerry on Jul 25, 2003 04:47 PM

In response to Ramz,

MPKDH is a flop. If you are one of those *blind* Hrithik clans, hence such comment. The movie was one of the worst to come out this year. Moreover it was sold to distributors at a very high price that they sank without a trace. The movie only made some money in US & UK.

I agree with Deepa that Bhoot was run of the mill movie as I had seen Verma's Raat and nothing was new to me. Only urmila's performance was way better than Revathi's in Raat. I never felt scared even for a second in the movie. Movie didnt deserve to be hit.

If you are wondering that I may be anti-Hrithik, then let me clear one thing: I am looking forward to Koi Mil Gaya more than anybody else in India.

Can't tell reasons for success?
by G Krishna on Jul 24, 2003 09:29 PM

A good discerning critic has an ability to not only see beyond obvious but also has the ability to recognize finer patterns. Your article on filmy trends is one of the more rather surprising articles found on Rediff. All the hit movies (including Andaaz, Bhoot and Jhankar Beats) had something that made them hits. What would you say to the fact that some of us who watch all the movies and have almost 100% track record of predicting the fate (success or failure) of each movie on day one, and in many cases even before the release of the movie? Now, that requires understanding of various elements of a movie (beyond just script and cast, fascination of Indian media, including that of Rediff), pulse of movie-goers, timing etc. With articles such as this, no wonder website/newspaper readers and TV viewers don't really pay heed to what reviewers have to say. And that is indeed unfortunate. So much ink, bytes and electrons are being wasted that could in fact be used by the general public and give Bollywood a good yardstick, if used properly. Will Rediff rise above the clutter/noise? Thank you.

Box Office

Junta's reaction has always been unpredictable. It used to be Big B whose movies were sure success. Though I had no doubt about the failures of Hawa,Khwahish,Saya etc. Such movies are pathetic and turn into a sleazy show of women skin. In fact I am happy with their failure. Though I could not believe Andaaj a success, these days getting good openings is meant to be a success. Same happened with Andaaj and it is dubbed as a hit. MPKDH is said to be a failure but here in US it is doing very well, running in its fifth week in a theatre in my town.
But a well directed, well made film runs, like Bhoot and in future too, if we have well made movies without unneccessary women skin show, will certainly work. I wait for Baagbaan, Deewaar & LOC.

The problem with indian filmakers are that if 1 theme clicks a whole bunch of people jump on to make almost simialr movies and end up giving crap.
