i guess the columnists must surely check their facts before they write a review.well if 'dum' is a copycat of arjun, what do u think 'arjun' was.Arjun was a remake of the tamil superhit starring kamal haasan,'satya'.and now dum is a scene by scene remake of another recent tamil hit starring vikram,'dhill'.
i am sure vivek oberoi 's performance was worth watching.
I want to correct the earlier message from somebody that says Arjun was a remake of a tamil movie.. it is the other way around.. That Kamal movie was a remake of Arjun... Arjun was a class act..
I haven't seen the movie, so can't say anything about it. But your comments on the music score seem biased and out of place. I love the score and listen to the whole CD without forwarding any song!! And I know many who do the same. It is definitely not the old kind of music. It is new and vibrant.
It is very disturbing to see wrong values being portraited in movies today. We have to accept that movies shape our perceptions and behaviours. With a traditionl value system that teaches to respect the system whether social or administrative is dying due to such protraits in our movies. It was a time when only the villan use to do the bad things in a movie and use to get punished by the hero but this distinction has vanished today. Movies like 'Kanta' where legendary actors like A. Bachan are shown doing robberies with no apparent rightious cause are sending the wrong messages to our society. This movie disturbs you at the end. I cannot understand, what big intellectual personalities like Pritesh Nandy and A. Bachan want to protray through such movies. Only the Box Office returns seem to guide there motives to make such movies.
The reason sighted by the flim industry that they reflect the society cannot be accepted. In the name of entertainment the youth are being indoctrinated with the wrong values. DUM is just one movie in this series. I support the views of the author that this movie supports the maxim Might is right rather than right is right. The society and the media should oppose such movies where the wrong messages are passed on in the name of entertainment.

Movies are a means of entertainment. How it reflects the society and how it impacts the society is still baffling me. Agreed, one gets to see most horrific and graphic views in movies, so do we see in images from middle east and bosnia. But that it impacts people is a very unacceptable statement. If a 3 hour movie can be of so much influence, why dont we learn good vitues from it too. To add to my argument, I strongly believe that actors are supposed to potray characters in the movies; not themselves. So however legnedary an actor is, when you watch his/her movie, you would want to see the character and not the person himself. We, the Indian cinema audience have to learn to identify and seperate the character from actor and real life from reel life.
The problem with hindi movies is, even when you copy you copy it poor. I have seen both Sathya and Dhill and I cant find any similarity nor I would dare to compare the characters, 'cause the treatment is very very different.
It only happens in Hindi Movies which is rotten in K3G kinda filth. Start making some original movies. Plz.

Kamal's Sathya was a remake of 'Arjun'. Kamal is a legend and a Perfectionist, so he remade Arjun with excellence. But original Arjun was the best.
Dum is remade from Dhill in Tamil. I haven't seen Dum, but the way review is written, it looks like it was not remade properly.
There is always a problem with remake. You have the language, culture and audience barriers to take care of. So only some people have the talent get a better remake out of an already success movie in another language.
Above all Screen play is what will decide the movie's box office. You only have a fixed number of stories possible, whereever in the world, so it is the treatment of screen play that would make the difference. And Hindi movies had fallen into a cliched treatment for a while now. So it is time that, they look into that a little bit.
IMO Dhill's screenplay was tight and well woven(eventhough the story is not a great noteable one). It looks like Dum is not done so. This is not a rare occurence on a remake.

Cool stuff...its like accusing a teacher who catches a student copying...Hindi movies have lost originality...After Lagaan every movie has been a piece of ****...Add to that, audacity of lesser mortals like Sanjay Gupta copying Tarantino calls for a billion dollar suing...Making a mockery of good films and accusing the guy who pointed it out can be labelled outright stupidity...Just look at the list of good films that Bollywood has messed up due to idiotic directors:
A few which really pained my heart:
Kaante Reservoir Dogs
Awara Paagal Deewana Whole Nine Yards
Dewangee Primal Fear
Saathiya Alaipayuthey
Shakti Not Without My Daughter
Mujhse Dosti Karoge Truth about Cats And Dogs
and the list goes on....Devdas was crap...Thank God Kubrick and Spielberg are way too above the league for the teeny brains of Bollywood....One humble request...Please Spare ClockWork Orange, Pulp Fiction, Scent of a Woman, Sixth Sense, Eyes Wide Shut and such first rate movies...Please all the Tutu Sharmas, Guddu Dhanoas, David Dhawans, Sanjay Guptas...Getting inspired or trying to remake those movies would be the worst thing to happen to a real movie fan...Though kudos to Legend Of Bhagat Singh, Raaz( which was a good remake)...

mr katke said that its sad to c bigwigs like amitab bacchan act in movies which has no cause.wat he intends to say is people get impacted by the movies.well if that was the case then why are the good things from the movies not picked up by the general masses.in movies its like a man(hero)wages a war against the unscrupulous characters(villains) of the world.but then people dodnt pick the good values and easliy accept the negative aspects of the movies. is this wat mr.katke intends to say.if he says so then he is wrong.movies r form of entertainment. as far as people like it it shud b appreciated.arent the people smart enough to know wats bad n good.they need no spoon feeding.wat matters is quality of acting ,songs, direction.and not wat the movie is about.
