SALUTE TO JP DUTTA FOR MAKING A MASTERPIECE
by azzu on Dec 30, 2003 08:18 PM

Hi friends I have just seen LOC THE LINE OF CONTROL.It is one of the best & biggest war movies ever made in india.Kudos to jp dutta for making so realistic & true to life blockbuster.I have seen all the messages regarding the movie. If you are a true indian then I request you all to appreciate jp duttas fantastic effort for showing us what goes on near LOC & how hard our army fight day & night to save our lives by giving theirs in those very difficult places like dras & other sectors.Instead of being so rude towards a worthy effort just salute the people behind this well made movie. You just go & spend lots of money in stupid movies like one ones made by johars, chopras, adityas & bansalis who just make you fool by showing us stupid things which can never be done by any wise person in real but jp dutta has shown us what our army do for us for which we should ever be grateful to them and we can only pay them back by seeing movies of the stature of LOC & salute any war movie which is made in india. The other directors like the one I mentiones above are making all the indian people fool & just making lots of money in the name of passion & good cinema butjp's LOC is a class act.Bravo.

Cyber intellectualism: The new internet movie critic
by Sandy on Dec 30, 2003 12:38 PM

Hey Arnab:

Congrtulations to you for living upto being a trule bengalee and dispelling a work of art without much effort and with sheer confidence, o not to mention your impeccable knowledge about Hollywood. May be its good that you were not born to criticize a movie like 'all quite on the western front' or even 'battleship potemkin' else you would have dispeled them as a wastage of B&W film because of it's monotony. What makes you a classic imbicile and a characterestic 'Rediff.com' writer is your usage of illogical comparison, where you have compared the digital effects of 'Hollywood' to 'man-made' effects of 'Bollywood', in Hollywood, you have the blessings of Big Studios and Multimillion dollar fundings, a big marketing strategies, where as in Bollywood, its all about a singular and audacious personal ambition. Kuddos to you Mr.Dutta, its time to experiment and trial and error to converge to a better cinema than the usual 'singing and dancing' tamashas. Arnab, in a typical American Lingo, shut up man and use your peanut brain pursuing something corresponding to your intellect level, which is really a questionnable entity.

Regretfully

Sandy

Good job Arnab
by Priyanka Sanyal on Dec 30, 2003 01:34 AM

Great observations. This is one piece that tells it like it is dispassionately. To the other guys who posted comments Arnab does not disparage JP Dutta's hard work/research or commitment. He just says that LOC-Kargil does not "work as a movie". Which is a fair comment and in my opinion the right one. The men of Kargil do deserve a "Saving Private Ryan"....let's hope we get one soon.

Never Agreed more with any movie review in my Life!!!
by Rajeev on Dec 30, 2003 01:21 AM

I exactly share Arnab's views to the word.I would like to add that Mr. JP Dutta has totally ignored the contribution of the IAF in depicting the war(at least in the version I saw!!)Nor have the reasons or the extent of Pakistan's intrusion been properly dealt with.

Replying to Mr. Manish and the other armchair patriots...I would like to suggest that they atleast read the heading of the article or the first few lines of the review before shooting from the Lip.

Mr. Dutta's intentions no doubt were very noble and he set about his task with real earnest. However, in doing so he, in my humble opinion, went overboard and ended up failing to effectively capture the essence of the Kargil War...the triumph of raw human courage and spirit over insurmountable odds.

The extremely harsh and inhospitable nature of the terrain not to mention the sheer heights which the Indian forces had to climb, in the face of fire, have not been highlighted at all. I could go on but I would be just repeating what Arnab has so accurately captured.

I would give Mr. Dutta full marks for effort but then YEH DIL MAANGE MORE!!!

Yes, Kargil soldiers deserves best, and dutta has done it.
by DIXIT PATEL on Dec 30, 2003 01:01 AM

Hello Arnab,

Looks Like you are too much influenced by Karan's, chopras, and bhansali's movie. YOu need to open your eyes. I agree with manish on that. they might be making okay movies, but they are still dream....just Rich peoples or stupid NRIs love story (yea, i am a NRI and I feel really bad when these director portrays them in such an indecent way) and expensive sets.

LOC is a war epic. It has a sense of documentary, no doubt. Dutta tried his best effort to give footage to many soldiers. He has done enough researched for almost 2 years going over every soldiers feelings for the war and his family. He has presented great facts and done great star cast. and yea, don't compare it with any hollywood movies. Our movies are totally different from their. they make good movies, so do we.

NO, LOC is not a emotional melodrama like johars Khnh (making audience fool of all time), KKHH, KKKG, and many recent movies from chopra.

LOC is the story of every soldiers, portrayed in a beautiful manner. Yes, the Kargil soldiers deserves the best, and I know we won't ever get close to it, but J.P. Dutta has done his part at his best. Jai Hind.

LOC is good
by KAUSHIK V R on Dec 30, 2003 12:09 AM

For the effort put in by all the actors and the director, I feel JP Dutta should atleast get his money back because all in all it comes down to the real deal and more over if a crap movie like kal ho na ho has been so well accepted and people dont go and watch LOC then that will be a great disgrace to the indian audience around the world. It has been produced well in terms of bollywood constraints and should not be compared to hollywood. Because what i feel is that the main aim of the movie to to convey the amount of sacrifice the soldiers and their families go thru during a war like this and the movie very well conveys that.

Arnab, remove your glasses
by Vivek Bakshi on Dec 29, 2003 09:07 PM

Looks like Arnab was wearing dark glasses while watching the movie and he missed many points about the movie:
1. The movie had ZERO exaggeration - everything was portrayed as real as possible (and that would explain the foul language - come on guys, 99% of us use this language - what else do u expect?)
2. The background music, sounds of live ammunition, actual soldeirs in the cast, the landscape of Ladakh - everything was world class
3. THe dialogues were great! A complete mix of rustic village to urban english, from hot-blooded captains to soft-spoken colonels - I am sure JP must have spent a lot of time with the army guys to get all this right.
4. The ladies were amazing. All of them without makeup and simple dresses looked 100 times more beautifull than they do in other roles
5. Arnab found battle scenes boring/repeating. What else did you expect? Arnold type heroes doing unbelievable stunts? You went to watch the wrong movie boss.

Bottomline is, Arnab misses the whole point on which the movie was made - to immortalize the heroes of Kargil, and share the human feelings which they and their family went thru. No other person in the wold could have made a better movie.

JPDutta's Effort was superb and indeed worth appriciation
by jagdeesh on Dec 29, 2003 01:07 PM

I have seen the movie "LOC-Kargil" and the movie is really touching. JP DUTTA and his men could really potray the Heroics of our Valient soldiers who fought for our pride and sacrificed their lives for us.

I congratulate JP on that. He has put in some commercial items like songs and heroines for all but could be understood as the lenght of the movie is really a matter of concern and he has to hold the audience.

He should also shown the Commendable job which IAF has played in this and with out their spectacular show it would not have been possible
