kargil and why we cant forget
by Nikhil Mehta on Dec 26, 2003 12:42 PM

Anita
Lets put the record straight. The men from Pakistan that occupied Indian territory were not infiltrators. they were personnel from NLI/SSG/AKR [northern light infantry, Special Services Group - Pakistan Spec Ops and Azad Kashmir Regts] Please let us not degrade the sacrifices, buy calling them merely infiltrators. We are fooling ourselves and the readers. these men were professionals from Pakistan regular army who on the directive of the govt. of a plan conceived by Gen Zia Ul Haq in the 1980s fought and lost to Indian ARMY. I am not trying to be moralistic but I lost 3 school friends in that war. I cannot accept records not straight

Why we can never forget Kargil
by krishnaprasad on Dec 26, 2003 11:25 AM

this was the movie, that was able to capture the lives of soldiers who are braving their life so that their brothers & sistes in the country can live peacefully. Dutta picturised it very well, though the movie is abt. 4 hours. It is to be seen by every indian and experience the life of a soldier, his emtions, his family for whatever we pay them be in taxes or services, we cannot value their contribution. Simply cannot. We saw this movie yesterday and were moved with the emotions and action that all personalities in this movie were able to display. This director deserves awards and actors like Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan ,Abhishek
rightly deserve awards. Hope the govt. and film boards and the awards juries recognise the hard work that actors have put in. More importanly all Indians must understand the difficulties soldiers face while protecting the country so that all other indians in interior live peacefully. This is the outstanding message that this movie shows very well and all must acknowledge this. finally a wonderfully captured and picturised movie. 4 hours is not a bigthing when watching this kind of movie.

partial view
by madhukar on Dec 26, 2003 10:35 AM

I commend the director and the actors for their good acting and hard work. The loose ends are the director should have potrayed even their side of the soldiers also. After all they are same- they obey commands and love for the country is incidental. He let go the people responsible for such a thing on both the sides. Which led to lose of so many lives. And for the jingoistic citizens, well we have not won or done some unique thing - we have only reclaimed back our land from intruders. Our politicians in ruling party have started shouting loud that it is a victory - I say no it is a lose - a lose to the families of the dead soldiers(on both sides), a lose on the tax payers money, a lose on economic development, a lose of human values, a lose of political spirit where the hardliners made profit and the stake was vigilance. An open question which troubles me is can India do a Kargil with China? No, than just please talk only about the soldiers and their suffering on both sides so that people will be reminded that well after all they are our own and follow commands only. On the whole the film was well made - but of a partial view only.

Not a single indian will ever forget the sacrifice of our armed forces. The movie couldn't have been released at a better time as this comes as a reminder that what ever be the status of ties with pakistan they are not trust worthy and can never be believed from their acts.We indians are very grateful to our armed forces which has held the Indian tricolour flying high whatever be the situation.

Excellent work by J.P. Dutta
by Pradip Khare on Dec 26, 2003 06:09 AM

I really appreciate and hats off to J.P. Dutta for his contribution to make successful films on our Real Heroes, who died on border to save our country.

Without such films, it would have been difficult for general public of India to know immense contribution done by our forces.

I wish all best for this movie to be successful and hope this should break record of Sholey.

We salute them
by VK on Dec 26, 2003 04:17 AM

I watched it first day first show in the US and moved by it. Dutta deserves an ovation. I remember all days while in Office in Delhi, we all used to listen to and talk about the war. When I went to the vally a year later, I could imagine what they went through. I saw injured soldiers being taken away in helicopters and the same I saw in the movies. No one can forget them.

We all salute our heroes. Kudos to Datta to bring us these moments and to the actors and actresses who lived their characters.

Last but not the least, I did not mind the length of the movie. What could JP Dutta cut from the present length? Nothing I guess. Dont think the songs as Just Songs, they depicted the feelings of the families of our heroes.

Thanks Mr Dutta and company and salute our heroes.

Salute to JP Dutta. When everyone sympathised and tried to empathise, this man has shown what every indian must do. Remember the sacrifice of those brave soldiers because of whom we are walking with our heads high. The value of Pride and honour can be known only when u lose it.

Movies showing Indian soldiers
by khopdi on Dec 25, 2003 11:31 PM

Wanted to share my appreciation for our soldiers who have faced tough times since a long long time to keep us safe. I also appreciate the efforts of film directors in making patriotic films showing the hard-work of Indian soldiers. It is our military guys who keep us safe. Let us do something for our soldiers too. The film industry is doing a good job to make people realize what our soldiers go through to save our people. Soldiers, Indians should not and will not forget your sacrifices. We are with you!

Our soldiers, the brave...
by saurin on Dec 25, 2003 08:59 PM

It is amazing and shameful that while we here are caught in the mind-numbing rat race of wealth and power and fame, on our borders young men are facing death in the eyes. I salute their indomitable spirit, their bravery, and their sacrifice. And also salute the sacrifices of their families; after all 'they also serve who only stand and wait'.
