Quite contrary to progress made by China at Gwadar Colombo and elsewhere it is true India has made little progress at the Iranian port of Chabahar.
All such projects issue tenders and go through the process. That is no reason for such long delays.

Chahabar has an important role in our strategic scenario. The pathetic progress will be noted by our neighbours who will have little confidence in our abilities.

Please read the Dawn newspaper of Pakistan regularly. You will find out that the highways through PoK to Gwadar are not even getting off the ground. It is instead going to Karachi port. Also the power plants being built as part of the CPEC are in serious trouble due to the high cost of power. China may be rethinking the Gwadar port due to trouble in Balochistan. So it is not that the CPEC project is rapidly progressing. That said, India should keep its commitments in a timely manner with Chabahar. I am sure there are valid reasons for the delay. World economy is going down the tubes. Making massive investments with rosy projections is not very prudent right now.

Nevertheless if we have ambitions to woo our neighbours and counter China, we have to move ahead.
Chabahar is an important cog in our strategic wheel in the north Indian Ocean. Also Shiite Iran can play an important role in the region. All said and done we must move aggressively on this issue.

CPEC is China's master stroke. China is closing all it's coal based power plants by 2020 due to environment issues (Paris agreement). They are shifting all their old power plants to Pakistan, will charge 17.2% ROI (Return on investment) and interest @8.5% and also asked Pakistan to invest 20% on these projects. These plants will run on imported coal. So China is said to be investing 80% on paper but actually not investing anything actually. On the other hand Pakistan will be polluted, pay ROI and interest on investment to china buy imported coal. Pakistan have no option cause China is their only 'friend' on this planet who wants to invest in Pakistan. The 80% China is said to be investing will go to Chinese companies who are supplying Power Plants and Pakistan will not get a single penny from them.

On one hand the author said even after 13 years the port could not be made, and on the other, he says "The Modi government’s appalling inefficiency and lack of purpose stand exposed". I just want to ask one question to the author i.e. Was Mopdi Govt. ruling for the last 13 years after the project started? Was that particular sentence required in this article ? You also talk like Rahul Gandhi. UPA was in power 13 years back. Will rediff post my comments ?

Bhadrakumar is a dynasty loyalist. Why would he write negative things about the UPA?

Inefficiency and corruption had been a hallmark of UPA. NDA came to power by drumming the same. So let us not discuss UPA and its regime in the instant case.
Judging by the rapid progress made in various fields by the present political dispensation, delay in such kind of projects having far reaching strategic and commercial ramifications has no justifications. Rightly mentioned that world including our adversaries watch our moves with different motto. We should not provide them a flagging horse.
Need to be cautious in such circumstances.

Almost six months after Modi visited Iran to moot the construction of the Port, Mr.Bhadrakumar calls it 'appalling delay and inefficiency'. Delays should be avoided, but Would Mr.Mr,Bhadrakumar say why when he was India's authority on Afghan affairs, he never got it moving in the last 10 years?
