Exploitation
by mohit on Jan 30, 2016 05:16 PM  | Hide replies

This is how Japanese companies exploit cheap Indian labor. (All companies exploit but Japanese are extreme). They also quickly take control of Indian partners and replace Indian sub-contractors/suppliers with Japanese. Look at Hero- Honda (which is now only Honda), Toyota Kirloskar (which is now Toyota only) and Maruti Suzuki is on its way to become Suzuki only. Once the Japanese take control of any company, all the suppliers/ sub-contractors are also changed to Japanese. Chinese are much better, from a purely business point of view.

Minorities have more rights than hard workers
by mohit on Jan 30, 2016 05:12 PM

The bitter truth is that, in India, minorities (whether religios or caste based) have more rights than hard workers.

Contract Labour
by suhas deshpande on Jan 27, 2016 02:47 PM  | Hide replies

This is the plight of contract labour everywhere in India. All laws look pretty good on paper, but when it comes to implementation nothing much works. In the manufacturing sector physical injuries are at least visible, but in the sunrise IT sector, the psychological scars are most difficult to erase. 'Consultants / Temps / any name you give them are worse off than prostitutes who have dignity

Unjustified Labor law need to change .
by Sanjay Tomar on Jan 26, 2016 08:04 PM

Why contractor worker safety getting compromise in Indian law. In permanent Work company are keeping contractor worker more than 90% is not justified. Company are not getting strict punishment by law if worker getting accident due to safety measure not taken, life time survival compensation not given to worker if contract worker getting handicapped in company due to accident is illegal how can be allowed by law. In India how contractor worker can be sacked if contract expire even in same time Company hire new contract worker is illegal how in short period frequently worker change their job forcefully is illegal. Some time new job takes more than six month to find another job how worker will survive in new city without justified severance charges unjustified by law in labor law need to change is anti labor. India Government must respond on this unjustified labor law.

Congrats Rediff

Appreciate Rediff bringing out articles like this, rather than RG had a sneeze, Kejari had booze type reports. This type of studies showing matter of social importance should fill our papers/columns so that leadership will be forced to take note and genuinely act up on.
I would like to highlight the folly of the Govt itself in which, they make rules and flout with impunity. It is generally known that unskilled labours are outsourced now a days. Even contracts are awarded which does not ensure minimum wages as laid down. Many times in Govt Deptt it is awarded to associations of land losers (effectively headed by a politicians). when asked to explain as to how they ensure Minimum wages they commit that they themselves are jobless and hence offer their free service. In effect they want to somehow get the contract and knock off the major part of wages. They either pay them inside the plant area and take back out side or if allowed to pay wages outside plant; pay them less under threat of continued employment. The hapless wage earners succumb to their pressure. Astonishing even the Departmental Finance sections themselves accept the arguments of the leaders to award work orders value below minimum wages. Why only blame Corporates for looting unorganised sector.

Precision India

My friend from Banglore studying BE Mech early 70s, went on Educational Study tour and to Batala to a company manufacturing Lathe Machine. When they wanted to take measurement of some component/part, they were measuring it with an Wooden Scale. That is Punjab & thats why all over India, people trust companies in Maharashtra & TN but not North. They say Dilli ka maal hai saab. Cars in the North are also equally badly maintained compared to below Maharashtra. Only Maharashtra, TN, Karnataka & AP had any quality maintenance of Vehicles or even other machinery.
