Arun Jaitley fared as Finance Minister
by AshokK Sharada on Feb 09, 2016 02:33 PM  | Hide replies

The previous govt. just to win the election, started many projects, without giving a second thought that how much it may cost the country and how much extra burden they are putting on the taxpayer. When Mr Jaitley became the Finance Minister, the Govt, didn't have sufficient funds to fund the ongoing projects, left by the previous Govt. and now the same predecessors are blaming for not fulfilling their promises made during the election and are accuse him for not starting the new projects promised by the Modi Govt. Unfortunately, Modi govt. doesn't have the required strengths to pass any bill through Rajya Sabha, they are dependent on the opposition parties, even Modiji very curtly informed that one family is not allowing to pass the bills, this shows the frustration of the congress party. Not interested in the development of India.
You cannot blame Mr. Jaitley, for his short comings, still even after facing so many hurdles, he is doing a commendable job. It's nothing wrong in asking more taxes from those who can afford to pay.
The minus point of this Govt. is they are not blowing their own trumpet, like their predecessors. This govt believes in doing.

REGARDING NDA FINANCE MINISTER
by Satyendra Sood on Feb 09, 2016 02:31 PM  | Hide replies

MR Jaitely is as good or bad FM as were others earlier. He used to propagate in very loud voice as opposition leader in Rajya sabha for raising the income tax exemption limit to 5 lakhs and simplifying & easing tax burdens on common man.But the day he became FM he forgot all what he used to propagate and instead started increasing tax burden by raising service tax excise duties on oil products off and on & forgetting of raising the income tax exemption limits. All leaders are sheep of the same flock. As long as they r not in power they cry as if they r the only savior of poor public but once they assume power they forget all what they used to vouch for.Similarly we are still awaiting Achhe din as promised by Modi ji which just seam to be a dream far from being realized even after almost two years since he assumed power.HAATHI KE DANT KHANE KO AUR DIKHANE KO AUR.

Well said. Politicians are "birds" of same feathers and therefore flock together...

Infrastructure, agriculture, social welfare, healthcare, insurance, education - a priority on paper.

This government created hype by guaranteeing many things; if this budget radical change to masses, then it can be safely concluded that this government too preferred SAFE route to stay in power.

Performance of Modi can be checked with performance of share market, sensex at 4 years low and value of indian rupees at Rs68, lowest ever and that too when crude price has slipped by 75%.
One just shudders to think what would have been the state of Indian economy had crude and all commodities not come to the rescue of these media created moghuls, Modi and Jaitley.
No less than RBI governor has debunked govt. gdp figures, Supreme Court has warned of death of democracy under BJP, what more one wants to dump BJP into arabian sea.

by dhananjay kritu on Feb 09, 2016 01:50 PM

UPA(under performing asset) became NPA ( non performing asset)in 2nd terms and problems started. Because of non implementation of infra projects trouble multiplied.
now if 30% assets are non performing means banks are near bankruptcy

Incentives to plug leakages of govt subsidies
by rajesh venkatraman on Feb 09, 2016 09:24 AM  | Hide replies

finance dept is such that it involves other depts. administration and practices to shore up the revenue of the govt. If other depts just bleed by tanking up the financial resources no point even in having a good FM. Its a collective responsibility of all dept. Having said that the FM needs presence of mind in allocating the finances to the other depts. As in case of drought the rural dept should have been given more funds to create rural infra and in good times it will come in for appreciation. like building of man made lakes / ponds / tanks
rain water harvesting etc so when themonsoon sets in it will benefit the villages and rural poor and also alternate methods for farming.
The other depts should also think of shoring up their revenue and not rely on the subsidies from the state and central govt. They should also check the leakages possible in their dept be it public distribution, water and power supply in transmission and distribution and also give incentives who come out with ideas to plug the leakages.

Plug the leakagess - It is in the news today in UP one chief Engineer in ONE department amassed wealth to the tune of 100 crores-sanction accorded by him for about 2500 crores appxly. Imagine the loss to govt - for various departments in every state. We cannot guess the amount of loss of revenue to govts for their expenditure- just @5% to every crore spending. Who could arrest the loss. No tough CM/politician/bureaucrat could survive if a small initiative is taken.

Job pf the FM
by GAUTAM MOOKERJEE on Feb 09, 2016 07:20 AM

The ones who are behind the preparation pf the financial document are more or less the same over the years ie the Economic Advisers of the Govt, the RBI Governor, those in charge of Planning etc.The politician Einance Minister is not very much aware of the intricacies unless he is himself from a similar background. That is the reason why things appear to be so confusing at a time when crude prices have touched below 30 dollars a barrel compared to 140 dollars a barrel five years ago.

Chadambaram was the worst FM of the century that almost killed the middle class but Jaitley is coming a close second. he seems totally oblivious to the PM's electoral promises and is happily imposing more and more taxes even though he criticized Chidambaram for the same policies. Instead of these duffers why can't we get a real thinking FM who won't see middle class as a milch cow and taxation as the only solution to current account deficit, trade deficit, etc?

As said it cannot be as about 65% of people are below poverty line and of the remaining may be 1-2% may be high income group. Total tax payers in the country is just 4% or just about 5 crores people while middle class and high income group put together is about 42 crore people. Remaining 37 crore people left untaxed. Of the total tax payers of about 5 cores at least 4 crores must be salaried class. There are so much of people of about 37 crores are not paying tax.The govt should take more initiative over this tax evaders. So far despite various efforts of different finance ministers no govt is successful yet. Unless the govt is strict in bringing more under this belt the existing tax payers are to suffer. Also due to corruption by bureocrats- politicians combined govt revenue is being eroded
