Does Economics Say how to find ways to cheat?
by rrr kumar on Apr 22, 2016 09:40 PM

I had booked under OLA Micro category yesterday. I have paid Rs 137 for 4.05Kms. If someone needs the bill i can provide that too. Is it worth paying this much? Please advise.

I believe the author does not understand and is unaware of surge pricing. Before should got his facts right before writing this article.

This article is written by someone who is the greatest fool.
If surge pricing is justified one also has to is fully within rights to practice black marketing, hoarding to increase prices, illegal goods purchase and what not.
This is a total asinine idiotic article by someone with scant knowledge of economics

Does this guy at all understand economics? His article on a whole justifies black marketing, hoarding , illegal price increase. If the surge price is justified , then black marketing and smuggling is also justified.
Asinine idiot

absolutely correct! I even speculate that both the editor & rediff site must have received kickbacks from Ola and Uber for writing this article.

surge pricing will not increase number of taxis in delhi from outside delhi because such peak moments of making lot of money will always be few.

in general more taxis will come on roads if there is a "stable" demand of taxis... which is how it should be.

surge pricing is exploitation in disguise of deman/supply

Kudos to Kejriwal
by Sudarshan Nityananda on Apr 22, 2016 02:23 PM

The authors say -"Thus, if high demand exists in one area without matching supplies, Uber's (and Ola's) surge/dynamic pricing mechanism ensures greater supply to meet an increase in demand" This shows their total lack of economic sense. If a dynamic pricing ensures greater supply, then by economics, this should bring down prices. That doesn't happen.

Also, when there are fewer taxis how can surge pricing suddenly ensure physical supply of taxis ? Do Uber and Ola have a car factory to place more cars in an area in a jiffy ? The entire article lacks common sense and is full of loopholes. Unless it was ghost written for Uber or Ola.
In an area as vital as public transport, predatory pricing must be quashed with an iron hand.

SURGE PRICING
by jagannadh rao on Apr 22, 2016 01:21 PM

Looting public is the logic of surge pricing. Does the customer have an app which will get him taxis at cheap or reasonable rates at his own convenience?. Does the customer have an app which will tell him when it is cheap and and advantageous to travel? Uber and Ola are quoting rates to kill domestic competitors and then when the field is cleared of rivals they will start looting the public and make good their initial losses and then milk the public. These western marketers are out to kill the domestic industry and they should be checked . KEJRIWAL IS RIGHT NOW.

Utter Bullshit explanation. If you just wanna follow demand supply logic tomorrow retaurants will start charging more price during lunch and dinner hours. As it Airlines are exploiting and now cabs.If this is not controlled things will move out of hand. When it comes to private sector economic thinhs gave a logic but if tomorrow government starts charging heavy price for lower berths in train like legspace seats in airlines or surge prices in rail /bus tickets during vacation the same economist will be up in arms.Pathetic attitude.Shame on you intellectual thinkers.
