GST
by bnj jha on Dec 09, 2015 06:16 PM

Dear Friends,I am 54 years old, since begining of my work life in Finance, we found why somany laws and rules, This gives ruling class option to keep people busy, pay bribe and vote.
GST, if applied with open mind, will be able to plug pilferage of taxes, bring transparency and also slim admin.
It can make on line simple then people friendly situation will have better compliances. All said but fact our lawmakers are not ready to give up discreationary power, which will be used as tool to make money. Take example If I applied for a land to convert into Township, No Govt in Haryana be it BJP or Congress will make my life easy. BUT If I am Damad or son of Politician, see all approvals in week or months time.
So who criticise this GST , are welcome to have debate including Mr Rahul Gandhi, Mamtajee or any CM of any Political party. I am not to defend BJP Govt but a system, which can make tax compliance better, and also do business better way. We can make tax shiphoning lower, if not zero.
HOWEVER, ALL TODAY IS WRITING SHOULD CALL FOR A DEBATE AT SOME BIG MAIDAN AND CALL GOVT ALSO TO DEFEND OR REJECT THE SYSTEM.

Rediff always publishes article which tells us why something will not work. Height of spreading negativity Rediff. Earlier you had published why reforms will not work and now you say why GST will not work.... Shame on you. This is the reason I do not buy any product form your site.

Misleading !
by Bharat Kumar on Dec 06, 2015 09:41 AM  | Hide replies

One single tax, a common market will help. Our country's complications are like a baby's with geriatric problems. We have complicated systems with no economy - taxes collected to pay govt salaries, with accountants and lawyers fleecing companies.

The tribe of Chartered accountants and auditors who thrive on maze of taxes and hold companies to ransom before each year end, are the people who lose if taxation is simplified ! Period.

The CAs, lawyers and corrupt and confusing bureaucrats together have a deadly grip with the existing confusion and red tape, which will get loosened if taxation is simplified.

Mr M R Venkatesh probably has that intuition as a CA and is naturally defensive of the current system and will oppose any changes. He is pointing at the bureaucrats, the very same kind in the Govt, only to deflect attention.

One tax, reduces confusion. The tax might look optically higher and may even burn a larger, but one, hole in your pocket. But at least you would know who or what is burning that hole. Today, there are many small holes, another gets created soon as one is plugged !

The richer western and some southern states which are producers and have consumer markets will benefit, so there is no case for a surcharge, the inter-state tax. They can make their own markets competitive or get greedy by imposing state-level taxes. So, Pondicherry, Dadra-Nagar haveli (DN) and Delhi registrations will stay popular, if states stay with Octrois and local body taxes

The Interviewer and the Interviewee both sound like Frogs in the well.
One is asking loaded questions, and the other is dishing half baked opinions. Both are happy. Nobody becomes wiser.
