GST would be disaster for India
by Nitesh jain on Nov 30, 2015 12:30 PM  | Hide replies

alas modi was right when he was CM of India...i still believe GST would be disaster for India and Finances it manages. Today a state has to pay for its inefficiency with GST entire country would have to pay for inefficiency of a particular state...this will also complicate fiscal autonomy of a state and will make state slave of the central government. This is the reason GST is not a great idea for diverse and federal country and USA have understood this long back. No attempt by US till date on this front

my suggestion would be merge turnover based taxes into one such as Sales tax and Service tax... and we must have excise duty on manufacturing to continue

Keep the tax rate of merged taxes at 12% while keep flexibility on Excise duty front.. this will not constraint the central government

So Rediff has at last found a congress supporter CA who is ready to criticize BJP at any cost for bringing in GST. The Fact is GST rate will be around 18-20%. It will certainly reduce cascading affect of taxes, paper works and complexities. Manufacturing states got nothing to fear because GST is consumption based concept. States like Harayana and Gujrat may not be consumer of products they manufacture but they must be consumer of products they do not manufacture. With the abatement of complexities about dealing with multiple departments, India will attract more foreign investors and might be called a major game turner. I am shocked that Rediff can go to any extent to criticize BJP. Stop it Rediff. U r even criticizing good works of a government which is beneficial for the entire nation. How much congress is paying you by the way...??

There constitutional Structure is quite different with that of India. Please be informed that the GST practiced among other nations is not similar to what BJP is proposing to implement here at India. It is in customized form. Besides i feel that it can be right answer to Indian Bureaucracy and Corruption...!! However I cannot agree on the point that GST is good for nothing.

In spite of circulating baseless air against GST you pls yourself write down the bad experience of European Union after implementing GST. Kindly also mention how the anomalies of GST has been done away with in India...!!

I partially agree with you but not in all aspects. Earlier Sales Tax is there and after VAT was introduced. Now there are many taxes and all going to abolish and going to introduce GST.
As part of Center, there are very clear and want to fix tax @ 18%. But States are not cooperating and want to fix 24% and above. This is not correct and there is no spirit in introducing GST.

Our constitution has given more powers to state governments and it has become headache for the citizens. Each state is acting like a separate nation.
I request Auditors like you to convince state government to cooperate with central. I know initially it will be pain for business community. But in long term the benefits will goes to citizens of India.

See that the TAX should not be more than 18% at any cost.

State Governments are increasing there budget according to there Tax Revenues. This is not correct. Once Revenue was reduced due to various reasons, they (state govt.) want to impose more Tax on general public.
So many state govts. are not cooperating with center to pass GST.
Ones Taxes are simplified, there is no corruption and no much assistance with auditors.
This is already one decade delayed. At least center to introduce GST from the next financial year to compete with global market.

Congress wanted to pass the GST bill. BJP stalled when in the opposition. In power it has corrected anomalies and wants to pass it. All political parties seem to like it now, so does the Industry. So from where did you dredge this man out

Will give big boost to industry, as they will deal only with one agency and also bribe at one place instead of dealing with many.

Ofcourse we have to pay higher taxes but on the other hand we will get rid of bribing so many deparments and hence will get major relief from Inspector RAAJ.
