How come a city can be develop in just 1000cr and such a small sum is whopping for rediff...great
Come to Mumbai and you wont be able to buy a chunk of land in that amount.. forget building cities, although i am not comparing Mumbai and other upcoming cities when it comes to real estate value, but the cost of building anything i.e infrastructure, buildings, roads, transport, etc. will more or less remains the same irrespective of the city.

How much of that goes to the kitty of Modi?
by Vijender on Jan 31, 2015 12:05 AM

How much of that 1000 crore will go to the kitty of politicians? If we go by the current standard, 15% will go to PM, 10% will go the state government and and another 20% to all the Babus who are involved in this game. And we will be lucky if the project ever gets completed. There is no point in talking about the quality of the end product anyways.

exactly. 1000 cr is peanuts. to use the word WHOPPING is ridiculous.

To give some perspective, last year, the subsidy on fuel was over 80,000cr.

BAD NUMBERS
by Vedic Hindu on Jan 30, 2015 08:25 PM  | Hide replies

Very poorly written article. 1000 Cr won't even come close to the cost of a smart city. That is just the basic minimum funding expected from Central govt to kick start the process. And in a place like India smart city cannot be built in 10 years - more like 25 to 30 years which means cost will keep adding up. I am all for smart, green cities but don't give misleading numbers.

Based on what I know it is more like 40,000 crores to 80,000 crores per city depending on location, size, quality and amount of infrastructure that needs to go in etc. This is just for basic minimum infrastructure to qualify it as a "smart city". The biggest problems for these initiatives are: 1. Funding 2. Land Acquisition and 3. Environmental concerns (during and after construction)

Forget it Amol. In the process, other states will become UP and Bihar but these 2 gutter states will remain same.

Good idea to develop all townships as smart cities instead of developing only metros and keeping rest as villages.

Best wishes

a pipe dream

Even constructing a building cost 300 crores and odd. How can we have smart cities, considering land acquisition, drainage, water supply, electricity. infrastructure, roads, internet, telecom etc at Rs1000. It seems to be a pipe dream.
