CHENNAI IS THE WORST CITY AMONG METROS IN INDIA. MAY BE JUST AHEAD OF KOLKATA OR CALCUTTA.
IT IS A NIGHTMARE FOR A PERSON WHO DOES NOT SPEAK TAMIL. REAL NIGHTMARE.
EVEN THE BUS CONDUCTORS , WHEN YOU SPEAK IN ENGLISH OR HINDI, THEY LITERALLY ABUSE YOU. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION . THESE BUS CONDUCTORS ARE CIVIL SERVANTS RIGHT ? I MEAN PUBLIC EMPLOYEES.

Do northies speak english, none of us know about that...You speak something that sounds like english with yaar after yaar after yaar and that obnoxiously sound just like your MTF Hindi
horrible wrong. They have included tamilians who r citizen of Singapore n Malaysia ( who r visitings in lakhs either to meet their ancestors or visiting state due to same language and Chennai has well & cheap air connectivity to these 2 countries). But, if you take out these people, then actual foreigners travelling much lesser to this city in compare to Delhi, Jaipur, and Goa.
Why are people angry about the choice of Chennai? The topic is only about the best places to visit, not stay for any length of time. It is ok to visit for a few days during Dec-Jan, and the fly away. Of course the remarks about the autos are quite right. If Jayalalita has done so much good why has she not set this right? Unwilling to confront the police guys who own most of them?

is lonely Planet crazy?.. Chennai is an uninhabitable village.. quite simple the worst city in India..worst infra, politics, film industry.. its an overgrown slum.. Government should consider removing it form metros list..visit Bangalore or hyderbad rather

I am a resident of Chennai..but i am surprised to see Chennai in this list. The city overflows with Garbage, it is full of people with little civic sense, has narrow roads which atbest can be compared to village roads, pathetic public transport system where people literally stand in the middle of the road to catch buses, rude auto , share auto drivers..it is a real nightmare
