Walmart and India Laws
by Al Ringer on Sep 25, 2012 08:39 AM  | Hide replies

With regards to Walmart coming to India thur FDI channel, India needs to put in some legally binding rules.

1. Strengthen Indian labour laws so that labour does not get exploited.

2. Create a fast track courts system so that any litigation should be resolved within 90 days, instead of taking 20 years like in Bhopal gas leak.

3. Sourcing of farm produce like vegetables and fruits must be done 100% from Indian farmers

4. Sourcing of other items must be done 50% from Indian manufactures and vendors

5. Walmart must fund 30% towards modernizing Indian ports and highways, because they will be using them a lot

6. Walmart must pay 50% towards maintenance costs of roads, airports, ports.

7. In case of environmental damage, Walmart to pay for 100% of clean up costs and any loss to collateral.

8. Walmart to fund building of warehouses by local people and then rent from them.

9. Walmart not to be allowed to own any real-estate in India whatsoever

10. Walmart to reinvest 60% of their profits into Indian economy for 20 years before the funds can be repatriated from India.

Without any controls, It will be a disaster to have Walmart in India

Walmart impoverished America.
by Girish K on Sep 25, 2012 08:20 AM

The farmer's share of the retail dollar is actually falling each year in the US. Also, a major cause of the shrinking of America's middle class (its biggest strength) is this Walmart phenomenon. America's employment will never recover fully in the years to come.

India Problem - Self Made
by Al Ringer on Sep 25, 2012 08:12 AM  | Hide replies

India Inc. which consists of 10 big IT Services companies plus Reliance, Tata, Birla, Bajaj, Mittals and another 20 such big names, have been given too much importance in India.

These guys have been floating inflated success stories in the West for the last 12 years and have predicted and promised a GDP growth of 10% year after year after year. Govt. Babus knowing nothing more also started to beat the drum that India will grow at 10% GDP annually. Indian media and International media picked up on the India success stories and started inflating the numbers to their own wishful thinking. This in turn gave more juice to the India inc. to further drum up artificial growth number and Govt. babus gladly went along with it. Media made it all look that India is most successful untold story of the Century.

Now, finally after the world economies failed and or failing, Indian lies came to surface. There was no growth in many sectors for many years and economy was actually failing for last 4 years.

However, since there is too much expectation in the market about India growth. It is too difficult to digest for the Investors. They have all teamed up now, to somehow prop up Indian economy with some major announcements so that each of these big time investors get a year or two to bail out of India.

Common man is going to be severely hurt with this FALSE stories affect.

India would have done well with much more sustainable growth of 5% for the last 15 years and continue on real numbers.

Just FYI this has been done by a govt. which also banks on the support of its minority vote bank and shamelessly promotes a policy of divide and rule.

The so called India Shining campaign of NDA was also wrong as it was too premature and no country can ever shine unless its levels of corruption are reduced significantly.

Say No to Walmart
by John Jones on Sep 25, 2012 05:38 AM  | Hide replies

So our Banias can keep on selling adulterated goods and fake medicines. Its ok if we die but the middlemen must be able to keep their illegal businesses without paying any taxes. We must continue buying shoddy Indian goods even if foreign goods are cheaper and of better quality. We must support the middlemen that hoard goods so they can sell it to us more expensively later on. Let us not sell the country to foreigners who will help us in reducing inflation and sell us better goods from all over the world at much cheaper rates.

And what makes you think that walmart wont do what oue banias have been doing ? have you ever been to walmart store ever ?

the solution to middlemen problem lies in honestly implementing our food safety standards as well as accounting practices not continuing with corruption and inviting walmart

i think all foreign stores will invest in india only one time and after that they will never invest money but will take away money from us forever.
and the subsidies(tax paid by common man) given to farmer will ultimately be passed on to foreign stores . so fiscal deficit will grow in long run .
it is like govt taking pain killer .

Ultimately these big corporations will start doing what they do in the West ....... push for lowering taxes and government/bureaucratic interference.

UPA has opened a Pandora's box which will ultimately destroy its own very lucrative socialist ways.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

Push for Lowering Tax was the cause of first Anglo-Indian war in Bengal, with famous Mir Jafar, betrayal with Nawab of Bengal.
