First, the people who fly on AI should be blamed. Knowing how bad it is, why do you still fly AI? Why can't you boycott it? Are you flying on AI because it is cheap? If you are flying to the US, then why don't you spend a hundred dollars or two extra to fly on a proper responsible airline? Some people say they book AI tickets for flights to the US as they serve Indian food. This must be the stupidest reason. First of all, you are only traveling on a plane, not living there. Second, all flights do give you a vegetarian/Indian meal option. Those in the US do earn enough to book on a better airline, they should stop being miserly and book parents tickets on a better airline.

Air India being our national carrier I have booked to travel to New york for journey on 9.5.12 though I have option for other carriers. Knowing this my friends discouraged me and advised to book some foreign airline as there is no guarantee when the airlines goes on strike. Due to last minitue cancellation of flights I have no other options but to book through other airlines by spending extra money. I learnt my lesson and never travel by Air India again. Sudhakar
employess r not going for strike for joke, its to demand some basic need and right from employers but if employers treat employees as slave then only they can say 'Apologise, start flights and then talk'!
pilots shud not bend to govt! its not a helper job that they can tell anything and poor helper, riggers , unorganized sector has to carry out slavery for not having any alternatives!
remaining pilots can leave the service and go abroad or can join other flight operator! whats a big deal!
in technical job, in a fight employee and employer, its employee who has to take upper hand like the later takes always in other unorganized sector!

Poor pilots, who get just Rs 10 lakhs per month. How can they make their ends meet with such poor salary? This move by the AI management is absolutely unjustified. Every pilot should be paid a minimum of 20 lakh rupees. They also should be able to take leave whenever they feel. All strikes should be legal for them. Ridiculous move by the goverment. Instead of alleviating poverty among pilots, they are sacking them.

@Monica 1. AI is ready is to bankrupt, if govt does not infuse public money. 2.AI is already notorious about its service, arrival timings (No one, who has a connecting flight, never travel in AI). Sudden, pilots strike is a strange thing, not seen in other airlines. Even if they call off the strike, whats the need for the passengers (HNI) to travel in AI? Now, AI got a good opportunity to sack extra staff, without heavy penalties like voluntary retirement benefits.

Yes!! Excellent move by the minister now let them realise and come back to work!! If these pilots are adamant the time will come they will be forced to drive taxis and autos
